Fire DJ and hire Chief , but I think the main problem with the Sens is goaltending.

I think consistent goaltending is one of the problems but the main problem I see with this team is clearly this:

(1) Poor defensive coverage and a few horrible breakdowns that kill an overall hard working group that has really good stretches within games

(2) Defensively play of major pieces on the team (Chabot, Chychrun, Norris, Batherson)

(3) Not utilizing the players properly and creating longer lasting chemistry among lines (playing Chartier with offensive players when he will finish with 10-15 career goals)

(4) Players don't seem to be playing properly for the coach, which is inexcusable at this point - this is a lack of leadership connection with coach imo. Not horrible, but not good enough to be a boston - which isn't that far in terms of talent/skill

Then I will add goaltending and the fact that this team is still young + INJURIES. Games played 100 or less - Sanderson, Pinto, Grieg, JBD

meh ! . Same old same old. Nothing changes. I have better places to spend my money then on seeing a hockey game. 0-5 on this road trip is not out of the question. But the leadership will "study" the situation.

This team completely folding, dropping sticks and missing passes in the second period is getting really, really old. That last 'powerplay'... Holy smokes, what a joke.

ya figure they wait to fire DJ when they get home at the end of the road trip?

Cuz if hey fire him during the road trip, it makes them look inept.....

I think they keep the coaching for the season, because DJ is soooooo loved by the players. Do I think there is an outside chance they fire him at the end of Dec .... maybe. But, just like we have no clue how this team is going to play from one game to the next .... I have no clue how management will react either.

Let's play a game.

How many more NHL coaches will get fired before DJ Smith and his staff get fired?

I will project 2 more coaches will fired first.

Lindy Ruff from New Jersey and maybe Seattle or Anaheim or Columbus

So if they fire DJ after Xmas, or just in the new year, you figure JM takes over as interim? Then steps aside when the new GM hires his choice as coach?

apparently the sens looking at two Assistant GMs that teams won't allow them to talk to in the year...the guy from TB, and Yzerman's protegee in DET

Kevin Dineen is sitting there with Utica (AHL). Coach ?

Brad Berry , HC of North Dakota University. Coach ?

John Gruden, HC of Toronto Marlies of AHL. Coach ?

Would Jacques Martin take the interim before going back to current position? Coach ?

What I really don't like to see is Brady and Giroux hanging their heads, shaking them in frustration, looking bewildered. Something has to give before permanent damage is done to the players on this team, no?

This 2nd period collapse issue has gone from anecdotal frustration to a major point of undeniable concern. I've seen people bellyache about the goalies, but there are virtually two different teams playing hockey based on whether it happens to be an odd/even period.

GA-1st Period - 19 (T-4th in NHL)
GA-2nd Period - 40 (32nd in NHL)
GA-3rd Period - 19 (T-2nd in NHL)

Not only are they among the top-5 in the NHL in terms of allowing the fewest GA in the 1st/3rd periods, but they're also the only team in the top-10 in this stat with a losing record. Then they Jekyll/Hyde into the worst team in the entire NHL by a mile in terms of GA in the 2nd period. Meanwhile, they're top-10 in the NHL in terms of GF/GP, and their GF by period remains very consistent.

GF-1st Period - 25 (T-21st in NHL)
GF-2nd Period - 27 (T-20th in NHL)
GF-3rd Period - 27 (T-22nd in NHL)

Now those rankings are affected by the low #GP they've played compared to most other NHL teams, but the distribution of GA is still the most extreme of any team in the NHL. It was mentioned on the TSN Coming In Hot podcast that Jacques Martin described the team's play as "unprofessional", and he's almost certainly right. This is just a scathing indictment of the existing coaching, and speaks to the fundamental limitations of DJ Smith's coaching.

It's easy to armchair quarterback this team.

Nothing is going right.
oh, and on a giggle I though maybe just maybe the Chargers show up last night and steal one and switched my pick. Brutal night of sports. I watched recorded jeopardy instead.

No point discussing this team until there is a coaching change. A shakeup is required.

I'm almost leaning towards keeping the coach now because the season is lost. Lets finish with a decent pick. Trade Korpisalo for a pick. And rather than rush into a new coach...lets let Staios find his GM, Gm finds his coach and it all gets a tidy bow over the summer.

Folks have difficulty accepting the season changed entirely when the fans booed the kids on home ice. Fragile egos have not and, likely will not recover, from that moment.

Many of the Sens top young players learned the game playing in front of US crowds. American fans cheer their team to incentivize them towards accomplishment. Canadian fans cheer their team to celebrate success.

I don't know if any of this can be fixed in the short term. Firing DJ will add to their sense of failure.

I think that is what Staios and Andulauar are struggling with at this moment. Are they dangerously close to making a significant move that will be interpreted as the beginning of a phase 2 rebuild?

Maybe the mistake was made in not replacing Dorion sooner.

It's looking grim, and we;re only a quarter of the way into the season. And that forfeited pick will always be hanging over the team.

If we're at the point of trading picks, or when we eventually get there, it would be Tarasenko, Kubalik. Not sure anyone is taking a risk on Korp at this point.

Tarasenko has that NTC though. Hopefully he'd waive , but that would impact the return, which otherwise could be pretty decent.

I think the Sens are very close to being a good team. Lots of talent up front, can dominate play for long stretches, mobile defense.
Defensive zone coverage is not nearly good enough.
Goaltending is meh.
As an outsider I am surprised Smith still has the job. He has had lots of time to coach this team.
I would be shocked if he survives this road trip if you don't play at least .500 on it.

Too late its done., damaged goods this roster is. Brady is just marking the days on the calendar until this contract is up. He even questioned his captain ability the other day. And truthfully he was too young and inexpeienced plus not enough vets on team.

I agree fire dj chants are irellevant, last night they were booing st louis gm. It happens in pro sports , its not bs . The keys to the ferrari were handed over to a bunch of rich kids, samething happened in edmonton. With 1 exception to possible hope...mcdavid
