When Jack comes back we will lose 6-5 instead of 6-3

A move needs to be made one way or the other, for a D or goalie. Something just needs to be done to wake the team up and shake things up.

In the end, our goalies just need to be better. Ranking 57th and 63rd out of 73 goalies in GSAx just isn't good enough, no matter how the team plays in front of them. They're paid to stop the puck, and they've been flat out worse than last season.

Even last night, Ruff said the defense was good. And for the most part he was right(the 3rd goal was real bad though). At some point, you just need your goalie to stop a (frank)ing puck and it's that simple.

As jack hughes goes the devils go…. Without him here we are.
Last year was a luxury having severson on the third pair…
Zadorov needs to happen to solidify the pairs colin miller isnt it and smith def isnt it

Tierny. Lazar. Nosek. Bastian. Mcleod. Huala. Palat…… didnt fitz say they had too many of the same kind of players last year? Ugly

Amazing how without Jack the incredible high value coach Lindy Ruff isn’t able to keep the team from losing. Can’t believe they extended this moron.

McLeod is one of the best faceoff men in the league. That’s all he has but that’s a pretty useful skill.

I expected some regression of defense after letting Graves and Severson go. Zadarov would be great but I’m not crazy about paying a premium b/c of a 3 team bidding war.

Not that I'm hoping it happens ... but if we were to fall out of the playoff picture..

So who are some goalies we think Fitz could be looking at? Just going off of his comments recently about potentially trying to get someone that is 'equal to Schmid'. Been seeing the names Jake Allen, Alex Lyon, and Anthony Stolarz as possible options? Anybody else who could maybe be an option? Highly doubt we see any kind of big trade mid-season.

These are all lateral moves. I don’t see how they would benefit us given none of them are significantly better than what we have. Maybe I’m missing something

Because management doesn't want Schmid in the NHL. It's as simple as that. Fitz flat out said if theres someone out there thats equal to Schmid that they can get so Schmid can go down, it's something he'd look into.

This isn't something new either. It was reported back in the summer by Seravalli that the Devils management would prefer for Schmid to be in the A. Which is why it's so mind-boggling that we didn't add anybody at the NHL level.

Saros has been just as bad as our goalies this season lol(he was never getting traded anyway). But nothing happened to Schmid, he just isnt ready to be a full time NHL goalie. He's only 23 and needs more time to season. He's only played 101 pro games(39 NHL, 62 AHL) since turning pro, after he was playing in the USHL as an overager essentially just 3 years ago.

You could always call up Marty lol just figured I’d check in since we play Saturday just thinking the only way to beat you (fully healthy for both teams) is in net. We have to win that matchup hence why I’m terrified of the devils having a better goalie. Schmid gave us nightmares tho that series lemme tell ya

As a Rangers fan, I was terrified you guys were going to land Hellybuyck in the off-season. But, when it didn't happen I really thought it was because they believed they had something in Schmid.
He and pretty much your whole roster embarrassed us last June. I really expected we would be chasing you guys this season. Even with Hughes hurt.

Good luck against the Pens. Honestly, I wish there was a way that neither team could come away with a win! lol, but I'll still watch, because it should be entertaining stuff.

Jack not on the ice for morning skate, so safe to assume he didn't make the trip to Pitt. We'll see about Saturday.

Timo also not on the ice for morning skate, hopefully get an update afterwards.

Luke Hughes and Colin Miller in 9 minutes paired together at 5v5: 75% CF% and 86.73% xGF%. Maybe Ruff will actually play Miller over Smith when we go back to 6 D, because he's quite the upgrade and should've been paired with Luke from the start(outside of his injury).

Miller has had nothing but great defensive impacts over the past 3 seasons, and had excellent numbers in Dallas playing on the top pair alongside Heiskanen against elite competition last year. I said it the day we traded for him back in the summer, even when the numbers expectedly regress he'll still be a + defensively and a stable partner for Luke. They should be able to feast on lesser competition being on the 3rd pair.
