Josh Biringer: Opening Night Roster and 4 Takeaways

Overall this is a great roster.


If there is anything I'm not 100% cool with it would be:

1) Moved out Jesper Boqvist but we have Lazar listed as the 3C and Tierney as the other option. I like Lazar as a 4th liner but not so much here. Tierney is more an AHL guy at this point.

2) I don't hate Smith as the 7th D man, but strapping him to Luke Hughes seems like a not great situation. Miller hasn't been good in preseason so I get it... but I'd almost take a chance on Hatakka or Nemec at some point.

Lazar is only there because Haula is injured. That's his spot when he's back

Smith & Miller are like anchors around the neck of an Olympic swimmer. These 2 have ZERO business seeing ice time on this team.

As pointed Lazar is holding the place for haula

If haula isn't ready I wouldn't be surprised if Mercer centers the line with holtz going up


I think Luke will be given limited mins at the start and be used more on the PP and once he is more ready for extended mins and shows not to be a defensive liability they may move him up but want the top 4 D to be strong defensively

We have an amazing team led by a legendary coach and a young, genius GM.

In 2 yrs, Lindy will be 3rd in wins all-time - amazing!

This will be a period of NJ Hockey we haven't seen before.

I know the legends we had coaching, but its our roster that puts us over the top.

Unfortunately the reality is that Lindy isn't going anywhere, even if the team "underachieves" this year. As long as Jack continues talking him up, he'll be the coach of this team.
