Josh Biringer: Undefeated Preseason and Roster Moves

I still don't see Nemec making it. He played his best game of the preseason last night, but I still don't see them rolling out 2 rookie D to start the season. Especially when Luke has looked shaky. Ruff has said he isnt comfortable with that, and I imagine Fitz will listen to him.

My guess of how it plays out is Nemec will be the final cut. Daws, Halonen, Kinkaid, and Foote start on IR, which means we're at 23 and Tierney stays up. Once Foote is good to go, Tierney gets sent down. Smith or Miller aren't going anywhere on the back end. Hatakka definitely deserved a shot, but that's just the waiver game. Same reason i believe Nemec will go down.

I could also see Nemec "making the team" on the initial roster for cap/bonus reasons, but then gets sent down before game 1. Believe we did something similar to that last year as well.

I couldn’t agree more. Smith & Miller have ZERO business being on this team. They are slow, always out of position, and let’s not forget the constant bad penalties. Add those negatives to the fact that they bring no offense. Nemec May make mistakes, but he’s young, fast, and will continue to grow. He is currently better than both right now.

Yep, makes absolutely no sense. Can't say I'm shocked though, Ruff just doesn't trust him playing the big minutes. Holtz needs to play with playdrivers, and this is just putting into a situation to continue to fail. Repeating the same exact situation as last season with him, how long until he's just a scratch again?

Trade him at this point if you're going to continue to misuse him. It's clear he's a bust for this team, for what they want him to do. Try to move him for someone they think can actually help this team, because he's gotta have more value as a trade chip than in a 3rd line "shutdown role."

-Foote has an upper body injury, and might be out for a "period of time."

Been saying it for a year now, FIRE Lindy. This team is so stacked with talent that they were going to succeed last year with literally anyone as HC. Lindy has failed upward into a lucky position. He’s a poop coach that makes garbage ass decisions and now he’s ruining Holtz’s potential the EXACT same way DeBoer did Adam Larsson. This is horsepoop. NJ deserves a coach that isn’t going to hinder growth over dumb ass reasons like Lindy is doing, AGAIN 🙄

That contract is garbage. Even with the cap going up, they’re gonna regret committing that much to one player. It’s okay to do this for a caliber player like McDavid/Matthews/MacKinnon. Dahlin is an elite d-man, but not worth tying up over 1/8th of your team’s cap for.

Friedman reporting that Fitz has continued to scour goaltending market and has still been looking around/checking in with teams, but obviously nothing is imminent. Says that while the Devils will start the season with Vanecek and Schmid, it's very possible that it may not end that way.

No way the cap is going up like 27.8 mil next year so it shouldn’t be too bad
