What does trusting KD have to do with anything? I don't trust the Minnesota or St. Louis franchises to play clean hockey.

Seth Jones lobbying to be captain is about the worse reading of the room I have seen in awhile.

They should not give anyone the C for at least two seasons and never, ever, consider Jones for that letter.

I cringe that he has an A.

I agree that nobody should be wearing the C this season. If Bedard breaks out as predicted, he should be the next captain, whenever it gets decided.

Torts did say that he believed Seth Jones was captain material, fwiw. It's hard to believe that anybody in last year's group would be a worthy successor, regardless. Nobody in that group has earned the right to wear it. That said, I think Seth did help drive up McCabe's trade value at last season's deadline.

It's certainly Bedards team going forward and most of the younger players seem to look up to him.

Probably the youngest captain in NHL history if it's this year or next. McDavid got it at 19, Crosby 19, Landeskog 19, Lecavalier 19, Toews was 20 but it was his first year in the league. (Edit: his second season - oops)

I guess they could not have one the first year but that seems like delaying the inevitable. What's one more thing on the kids shoulders at this point.

There isn't any reason to leave it vacant unless they're worried about overwhelming Bedard in the first year.

I thought Toews became captain in his second year in the league. I could be wrong.

Torts also said that Zegras scoring lacrosse goals was bad for the game so I'm not sure how much of his assessment can be trusted.

That is correct. His second year. Lapointe was captain his rookie season.

By that standard, Perry or Fologino could be a better place holder than Jones. Would be rather awkward to give it to him and then take it away a year later.

If anyone deserves the C this year, it's Jared Tinordi for dropping the gloves last season the first game back after sitting out 6 weeks with a broken jaw.

imo they are going to do what they did with towes , veteran mentor for Bedard and most likely next year or the year after becomes the captain. Agree with you elbows on Jones.

All the more reason to not consider him for the C. Jones won't be a factor when/if this team becomes good again.

Plus. anyone asking to be Captain is a brown nose or a snitch.

I listened to a podcast with Danny Wirtz and Jamie Faulkner being interviewed by Pat Boyle. They discussed creating parameters for future jersey retirements but also talked about creating a ring of honor, to honor Blackhawk players from the past. It was Rocky's wish that Chelios's number be retired and then they came up with the idea of having Eddie Vedor do it at his concert. Then they talked about hiring Darren Pang to do the color. He was the guy they wanted.

If you read the article, the headline is misleading clickbait. In the body it says

“I understand where the organization is at,” Jones said. “I’m focused on going and just playing my game and leading whether I have a C, an A or nothing on my jersey. I don’t think that should change.

“‘Tazer’ always used to say that in the room the past couple of years: ‘Everyone has a voice in here, everyone is allowed to speak up and say what they want. It shouldn’t be just four or five guys who are able to talk.’ If you’re an 18-year-old, you should be able to speak your mind. So, I really took that to heart.”

He isn't campaigning to be Captain, he would like to be a captain, but so would a lot of hockey players want to be captain, who wouldn't.

According to CHGO podcast, Sorenson was impressed with Korchinski's filled out body, Kaiser, and Nolan Allen sticking out as a man among boy's. Also said Commesso looks a lot quicker, he used Vasilevsky's training regiment in the offseason, and was on the ice with Jeremy Swayman every day

I know a lot of opinions are out there on who should be captain, but to be honest as fans, none of us really have a clue about who should or shouldn't be captain. Unless you are down there with the players, coaches and staff and seeing the day to day. We might all have preferences based on observation, but it's like 10% of the picture. We might hear 2nd hand, or 3rd or 4th hand information but these are the situations where you just have to trust the staff know what they are doing.

IMO if they do name a captain (which I do not think the Hawks do), it will come from Foligno, Perry, T. Johnson, as a one year "caretaker", and then Bedard barring unforeseen ircumstances takes over next year. I can't see them giving it to either S. Jones, or Murphy and then ripping it off them the next year, although captaincies have been taken away from players before (Dustin Brown, Joe Thornton for example)

It seems like yesterday that we were using the Travis City prospects tourney to decide where centre Phillip Danault taken with an extra first rounder, (in the Troy Bouwer to Capitals trade) was going to fit as a hawk centre.

I am excited to watch Tom Kurver's because almost the entire continent of defenders are playing and though it is too bad that college bound players Gajan, Nazar, Moore etc. are meeting roommates and unpacking elsewhere, b/c that might've tipped this exhibition tournament our way.

Well, I am ready to wiz on Tab Branford (Can that possibly be a REAL name?)

He is "impressed with Landis' poise and perspective in their conversation.
Del Mastro reminds Tab of Seabrook. ( I remember when after the team seemed championship bound before 2010 when Branford emerged as a blogger as the rise in Hawk bloggers was up exponentially, when he evaluates Dylan Olsen of the Camrose AJHL defenseman as a "Seabrook type player" too. Olsen couldn't skate anywhere near Seab's....oh and many here thought he was a lard ass skater, lol.)

Noah Allen's snarl and skating is who I would call a more worthy contender for that title.

Del Mastro, has certainly accelerated his worth as a prospect from late pick to captain material, top physical fitness TO play big minutes, and improved feet and now he has to think the game much faster and his stick, pins, and head have to really take a jump in playing a pro game.

It is certainly a mystery that Nick Landis stayed on the draft board until pick 67. I know teams have different wants, lists, but still.

He is a featherweight, but can he read and handle and shoot the biscuit.

In the same way the Maple Leafs chose Easton Cohen, there was a possibility that some team would take an apple bob of Landis earlier. The other thing is he needs a lot of strength and weightroom time before he could ever consider matching himself against guys other than juniors.

I might at well add this, and put all in one post:
I agreed that Wyatt Kaiser isn't going to the minors (unless what we all saw was an aberration, he knows what and is confident in his play and even his up ice attacking, where he completely melts down which I doubt.)

I get that teams have done this is the past, waiting a year to give captain to Toews, Crosby, McDavid etc. But why wait? Day 1 Bedard is the leader and best player on that team. The kid is so mature and I can't imagine any of the vets would take exception it. Hall, Foligno, Perry know what they signed up for.

He could be the most mature 18 year old ever on the face of the earth, but do you think he can handle an NHL locker room on day 1, while he himself learns how to be a pro ?

Am I missing it or is ONLY the SECOND Kurver's scrimmage is going up on YouTube.

You would think either or both Blues/hawks would have access to televise, but I guess the wild won't pay to telecast a St. Louis - Chicago exhibition out of their pockets at a free game...
