You forgot about the Flames. If the Flames are out of it, Lindholm is probably going to be the best forward at the deadline and Hanifin will be the best defenceman.
If Treliving hasn't gotten Nylander signed to a new contract, and he likely won't or shouldn't, Nylander will not be traded at the deadline if Toronto is having a good season; he will be Toronto's own rental.
The core 4 needs to be broken up, but I expect it will be a pretty unexplosive event with Nylander going to free agency and finding a massive contract on a team that can afford him.

If Toronto had the cap space to sign Nylander to a new deal, it might make a touch more sense, but they do not.
Trying to win a cup is more important than acquiring picks at the deadline.
People give up assets trying to get a guy to win a cup. It is no different.

Define being a NJ, Carolina in the East. I'd say Toronto is just about on par with those teams. Casinos have them with the same odds as NJ and just behind Carolina to win the East. Most people would not expect Toronto to be in a position to be dealing away assets at the trade deadline. If they ship Nylander, it will be to make them better this season.

I don't know how anyone rationally views Toronto as a seller at the deadline unless they suffer massive injuries this season.

I guess you're enjoying living under that Donkey Cathy Hochul. NYC is trying to send their illegal immigration problem to upstate New York. So far, cities like Ogdensburgh, Massena and smaller towns are not willing to accept NYC's problem.
