The Salt Lake City Coyotes? It is starting to look more and more like Salt Lake City will be getting an NHL team. Some in the media are saying this is a growing inevitablilty…

The Coyotes owner just made a bid today to purchase land in Mesa, AZ for the new arena/complex...

So they are going to be playing in Mesa, Arizona and calling themselves the Salt Lake City Coyotes?

I thought about going that route...maybe the Magic Underroos, but decided it was too easy.

Stupid as always. The owner is going to buy land in Mesa. You have a joke of a website. Pander to certain markets.
- Doaner19

The owner is going to do lots of things that never quite work out. No way the PA agrees to let them play in Mullet Arena until ‘26-27 at the earliest.

I suppose it's possible they could end up there, the league is supposedly very high on both SLC and the Jazz' owner although we know Bettman will do everything he can to keep them in AZ. But why put this out today when the leading NHL story on a very slow for Hockey, August news day, is that the Yotes ownership is purchasing land in Mesa? I don't get it. I guess clicks generate revenue and if you can get 20 people to all make the same point then writing something that's very obviously contradict-able guarantees a little chunk of revenue. That's the only thing I can come up with to explain it,

They won’t be. If you follow the situation at all, you would understand the timeline this would play out at. It doesn’t take 4 years to build an arena.

Additionally, pretty much every ice sheet in the greater SLC area, including the one where the Avs ECHL affiliate plays, is Olympic sized due to being built for the 2002 Olympics. AFAIK there would be no immediate place of any size for an NHL team to play up there so there would be just as long a wait as there is in the Valley.

It would have been 4 years (possibly 5) from Glendale terminating the team’s lease and their moving into a new Tempe arena - the last year in Glendale and a 3 year deal (with an option to add a 4th) with ASU. That time was needed to for design, municipal approvals and plebiscite (oops).

Everybody’s patience with this joke of a franchise is wearing thin. There’s no guarantee that the PA agrees to another year in substandard facilities at ASU or that other owners don’t tell Gary to drop the hammer and collect a nice big relocation fee.

As always, the garbage shared from north of the border is exactly that!
This info share looks pretty dense after the announcement of intent to purchase land in Mesa. Stable ownership and a GM with a great plan is going to show dividends this next season.

Keep telling yourself that and maybe Canada will in a cup.

Nothing you’ve said makes any sense at all. You obviously don’t listen to what the players really say about the facilities at the temporary location. If they build in mesa, which it sounds they will, it will not take 5 years bud. This ‘joke of a franchise’ is heading in the right direction, on and off the ice, and will have this arena deal done soon. E6

Doaner 19,

As a life-long Cleveland Browns fan I hate it when pro franchises move, and how bad it hurts fans. And I am glad about the reports of the ownership buying land in Mesa, if it happens. I am also glad to see you out front and sharing your opinion about any move to Salt Lake City, and/or Houston, or other places.

However, I think you need to understand that your team is seen as a royal mess and in big trouble. After all the problems with finding, building, using, or selling non-hockey fans on an arena with or without tax consequences how can there not be a large number of doubters?

A lot of people believe this is smoke and mirrors, and they have reason to believe it. I hope you get your arena quickly and out of ASU's building, but time is rapidly running out on you and the team..

I was excited for a bit when Pittsburg was possibly going to move to Kansas City. That would be a 4 he drive for me. I would have gone easily Then Nashville was rumored to be moved. I would have loved a cross state rival

Slow your roll. Never making any money doesn't mean it's "working" in the desert. No offense but it hasn't even remotely worked in the desert. Don't blame the Canadians for wanting their team back. You do know that your precious team came from Canada right?! Show some respect. Now if we want to talk about Ek not having a clue and reporting anyway...we just may be able to have a proper conversation.
