What's so amazing here. He was an RFA. He probably could have taken a 2-year bridge deal at a higher salary. But he goes 3-years at a lower cap hit. Why would he do that? This takes him to UFA status. So if his game continues to progress he's a 29-year old UFA ready to cash in. So I see nothing special here. Now if Florida got him to sign a 6-8 year deal for something in the $5-6M range...hmm, interesting bet on the player developing into an excellent top 6 player and having him locked up through several UFA years. |
