Calgary and Seattle interest in Brett Pesce…
Hearing a lot of talk surrounding Pesce…especially if Karlsson were to end up in Carolina. Anyone else feel that Carolina should remember that Burns and Karlsson in San Jose wasn’t the greatest situation? |

Or Carolina is feigning interest to get other teams in their division/conference to overpay for EK. Pesce or Skjei will most likely re-sign in Carolina. I don't think both will but the Canes blue line is stout already. Don Waddell basically said they are trying to make the DeAngelo number work. Where does that leave room for EK? How does it make sense from a cap perspective? Too many variables and a lot don't make sense.
Also, he's not a fit in Carolina. Whoever wrote this post is right. Burns and EK together don't work. They are best when they are each the Alpha on the blue line. |

Did anyone read Mark Madden's article where he's reported that Karlsson has indicated he is not interested in waiving his NMC for Carolina. He doesn't like their style of play, not to mention reuniting with Burns. Meanwhile, we hear stories of how Crosby and Letang would welcome Karlsson with open arms. Letang would even give up the PP gig for Karlsson.
Seems pretty obvious that Karlsson either stays in San Jose to revisit later, or gets traded to Pittsburgh. But Ek keeps reporting Carolina, oh and Toronto and Edmonton. Is NJ still asking about Jack Campbell? |

Brett Pesce will not be signing in Carolina unless he takes a steep discount on what he could get on the open market.
The Hurricanes DO NOT sign players at the top of their aging curve to big contracts.
As for Karlsson, one of the big issues in San Jose was they kept trying to play EK and Burns together.

Why would anyone take a Pittsburgh sportswriter's speculation as fact? |

Bingo is right, Canes just don’t hand out big contracts to players who have an injury history and may have overpriced himself in CAR. One does wonder how far apart Pesce and the Canes are ? I can see the club going 5 to 5.25M x 3 years but who knows. Pesce is a helluva d man and hope he can be retained at a decent salary or flip him for Nylander, but unlikely since he wants 10M plus. And just No to Erik Karlsson. I can see a locker room cancer from here ! |

No way that Carolina alters what they have now to a team with Karlsson, and become a better team. Let alone losing Pesce from it, I don't care what the return is. |

You are correct. Why listen to a Pens beat writer when Ek has E4's in place. Nylander for Pageau and Wahlstrom. So Karlsson goes to Carolina. New Jersey acquires Jack Campbell. Oilers get cap space for stuff. Final domino is Yamamoto to Pittsburgh, because they miss out on Karlsson.

Only way Seattle is in here is if they arent getting Dunn signed and he is flipped out, otherwise not happening. |

And Pittsburgh has Letang and Carolina has Burns but they're in on EK.

Yup but Seattle's NTC list is like 3/4 the roster. Dunn just signed. Unless they talk someone into waiving Seattle is pretty set now. They aren't ditching Larsson, Oleksiak, Dunn, Schultz cant see waiving but ok possible if you flipped him out to add Pesce there perhaps, and dont see them shopping Borgen who they just signed either or Doumolin either.
And even THEN you are taking more money with Pesce at 4mil over Schultz with only $943,424 in cap space.
Again EK throws this out without even looking at Seattle. It ain't happening there without something significantly giving and RF hasn't done anything of the sort there. |

And Pittsburgh, Carolina, and most of the league aren't in pretty much the same situation? Vince Dunn isn't the generational piece you build around that you seem to think he is.

Brent burns and EK did not play that much together. They both play the same side |
