It’s interesting to wonder what might have been had Flyers accepted Boston’s trade proposal of Tim Thomas for Gagne and what it might have meant for that 2010-11 team. Obviously Boston is glad that one got turned down. |

The Riley Armstrong interview on Flyers Daily was very good. Worth the listen.
Gagne was the de facto captain of that era, love his look back at the many positives instead of the ending. |

Flyers, up against the cap, make stupid trades to get compliant... where have we heard that before?
(The disrespect that Homer showed Gags was really something) |

Jay Greenberg's Flyers at 50 told the entire story -- including how Tampa failed to disclose to the Flyers that Walker had a chronic hip issue -- but a summary follows below.
I still think Nashville knew that Ellis had a medical red flag before his trade to the Flyers.

Obviously prior to coming over the guy had a bunch of stuff, all in all nothing major. I don’t think he would have been as pissed about being traded if he/they knew he had a serious underlying issue. It looked more like a guy that got his pride hurt that his team moved on |

Well there is Ellis's cap hit for the next several years ...
The point is Ellis was a #1 RHD traded for just slightly more than a bag of pucks. He was expected to play at a 1st pair level for at least a couple of years. As far as the Flyers not losing much in the trade, I submit they have sorely miss that cap space.
The same group that matched Shea Weber's insane offer sheet from Holmgren for a 14 year contract rather than take the picks only wanted slightly more than a bag of pucks for Ellis under cost control for several years.
Nashville was clearly saying they didn't value him at anything close to his cap hit and was willing to, if the reclamation projects didn't work out, be happy with just the cap space. To them it was a salary dump and they didn't have to retain anything or include draft picks.

some on this site thought we lost that trade right off the bat because we gave up so much youth and promise. And that was before ellis got hurt with us. haters gotta hate

76 points in two straight seasons, Selke winner the season after, 16th in points by centers over a 4 year period - more than Barzal, Backstrom, Zibanejad and Bergeron.

I always felt bad for Gagne the way the Flyers treated him. He was a very good player and was one of the primary faces of the franchise for a while. Holmgren did him dirty. |

I can’t believe Homer had the absolute gull to come out and say he ever felt disrespected by Gagne. Gagne wanted to be here.
Heck, I just found Gagne’s last 5 goals as a Flyer on YouTube a couple days ago (type that in). I believe he had something left. I would also argue he was better at getting back into the defensive zone that most of our centers when he returned and it helped out our defensive play during the half season. |

I heard Iginla for Gagne going back to forever. I love Gagne. Top five Flyer in my books. I would launched Gagne to Calgary with a cannon if it meant Iginla was coming back in return. |

12 seasons in league and you talking 2 or 3 seasons where ranks top 16?
Yes I’ll get my shine box. So laughable |

You said he was "never a 1C." But by any measure he was a 1C for four years in a row. The four seasons before he signed his contract he had as many points as ROR who was the 1C on the Cup winning Blues during that time. He was the 1C on the 6th best team in the league in the 19-20 season when he won the Selke trophy.
Keep this up as long as you like, because watching you choke on your absurd arguments is hilarious. You're gagging like one of Hunter's hookers. |

If the Flyers were smart they would offer Dumba a 1x4mil contract then flip him at the deadline at 50% retained for picks.
This is the type of GM work i would like to see for the next 3 years, acquire picks and prospects and give the kids some time to develope. |

You also need cap space and a player willing to come here. Not GM mode in a video game |

And where are the Flyers going to get $4M? They have $2.9M in space now and I presume that is going to Frost, though its curious he has still not been signed now the DeAngelo is gone.
