The ONLY way this works with some kind of trade w/ the Isles
is to add a third team to the mix...otherwise there is just NOT a fit
between the 2 teams
or unless...Pelech, Dobson, Wahlstrom, Czikas, 2024 1st for Willy & Brodie
Leafs get nice young RHD (Dobson) plus a veteran LHD (swap for Brodie)
2024 NYI 1st (top 5 lottery protected)
Wahlstrom - RFA right winger that has potential but is kinda meh so far in career
so the contract will not be much at all - maybe 2.00 AAV
Wahlstrom & 2024 1st could be trade bait for potential replacement for Willy NY
4th line player who hits/plays the body who makes 1.75 AAV for only 2024 season

LOL!
No way Pelech AND Dobson. One or the other. And no thanks on Brodie.

The way Pelech played the last few games , losing to the Canes, I would have taken a bag of pucks for him. |

He was lost out there. Go watch some of the lowlights. A full bag of pucks may have been too generous. |

I would rather let him play out his final year and walk for nothing than trade him for these Isles castoffs
Dobson is mildly interesting. The rest I wouldn’t take for free

I would also rather watch him walk for nothing. It would be great I fully support it. |

Someone who gets it. If the trade offers are garbage (ie Pageau + Wahlstrom) then you keep Nylander, try to win a Cup, and deal with him next summer. If he walks, it isn't for nothing. The return is CAP SPACE. So instead of the $9M that was earmarked for Nylander, you just use that $9M on other free agents. Let's see...who might be available...Bertuzzi is one idea. Leafs will get a trial run to see if he fits long-term. Who else might be available...Stamkos, Lindholm, Guentzel, Reinhart, Scheifele. Oh maybe you want d-men...Toews, Pesce, Hanifin, Montour. Perhaps Hellebuyck. Not all of these guys will make it to UFA. But having cap flexibility is an asset. Trading Nylander for a locked up Pageau at $5M is extremely stupid. |

If it's Dobson plus something nice sure. I'm an east coast guy and I think he's going to be great. But here's my Nylander take which ends without a Nylander take. He shows up in the playoffs more than 34 and 16 do. Even 91 who scored the Tampa OT clincher. Much like the Islanders clincher against Florida years back and how'd that work out in 2nd round both times? Clearly I'm an older and crusty fan. But when the top 6 isn't going it's always Nylander who gets sent to the 3rd line. Not the equally unproductive 34 and 16. When the second PP isn't going it's Nylander sent to the 2nd unit. Not the equally unproductive 34 and 16. When the team has a stinker and the coach benches a player of consequence it has to be Willy.
He'd be a great fit on the Island. You guys would absolutely love him more than most Leafs fans under appreciate him. I'm not calling him Wayne Gretzky but I'm sick of the whole "Willy's gotta be the one that goes."
What about the other two. |

I think it’s pretty funny you guys are all throwing out Dobson plus. He’ll be 25 and an RFA in 2025. We’re paying 4 million till that point. 49 points last season and 51 the prior on an offensively starved Islanders team. You want him plus for one year of Nylander who from what I’m reading wants ten million per. I think nylander is a good player and we need someone who can score goals but if Lameriello trades Dobson plus for the guy I’ll be the first one to call for his head. It isn’t happening you guys are completely delusional. |

I'm talking about Dobson plus. But not the plus being a first rounder or a top prospect. Like I said, I live in Atlantic Canada I follow the Q closely. I knew he was going to be solid before Islanders fans probably knew who he was. So I don't under estimate him. Nylander wanted much more than the 6.9 last contract negotiation. He didn't get it. The internet's the last bastian of truth I guess. I was more less using the trade proposal to crap on the other two golden boys more so than discuss the trade.
Don't rule out Lou doing something ridiculous though. Didn't Pierre Engvall get 7 years?

Yeah he did. Don’t like the contract but that’s far from trading an up and coming, young, offensive, cost controlled defenseman for one year of a good fwd. You’re missing my point completely. I can care less what the plus is. You’re not getting Dobson in a package for nylander. Period. Forget about the plus part which makes it more hysterical. If Lou did that it would be his swan song the kid is too valuable to this team. You’re completely shot like your fellow Leaf fans on here if you think it’s an even realistic trade. Plus. Lolz |

Leafs should ask for the Islanders’ next three first round picks, and the Islanders have to retain 50% of the salaries of the players the Leafs draft for their 1st and 2nd contacts.
Leafs send back a 4th round pick in 2025. |

Just read a few of my posts.
It’s crystal clear that I could be a better GM than the guys currently employed by NHL teams. |

I would take Dobson straight up for Nylander. Top pairing D who's only 23, not to mention 4 to 5M cap savings to spend on another d-man or top end netminder. What is not to like about that? This team can score. Just like they could before the Tavares signing. Spend your money wisely. |
