What’s the condition of the 1st? - optimus-reim
I can't find it anywhere. I would think it's probably a protected pick in case the Wings somehow bottom out.
Second Edit: Found it. "The initial condition on the first-round pick is as follows: the Red Wings will have the option of sending their own 2024 first-round pick or Boston's 2024 first-round pick (previously acquired on March 2, 2023) to Ottawa. However, if the Bruins' 2024 first-round selection is an eventual top-10 pick (following the annual draft lottery), Boston will have the option of retaining the pick and transferring its 2025 unprotected first-round selection to Detroit. The Red Wings will then have the option of sending that draft pick or their own first-round pick in 2024 to the Senators to complete this trade."

It is basically Detroit's choice of either their pick or Boston's. Both picks are top 10 protected.

Now, Ek, you can see what DeBrincat fetched in a trade...not anything crazy like you "heard from a reliable source" (after ingesting some shrooms?)...so, please, your Karlsson "rumors" (wink wink), try to make them more realistic as he's harder to trade than Debrincat was... |

The deal I expected. Too many Twitter Ottawa fans were thinking they'd get half our key prospects. Solid exchange. Kubalik has a chance to pop off in Ottawa, though. Genuinely. |

In the context, it's an okay trade. Ottawa would never get back the original value anyway. If they use that 1st pick well AND if they sign Tarasenko, all is good. If not, it was a gamble that just didn't work out.

Agreed. I am not mad at the price paid to get DeBrincat. That's the way it goes sometimes. I'm glad Dorion is willing to take some calculated risks.

Dorion HAS to have something else in the works. I would think Tarasenko.
He needs to flip picks or prospects for something else too (Konecny or Laughton) |

100%. Something else needs to happen to improve their top 9.
DeBrinat is clearly the best piece in all of this, but a small winger making $8M, he HAS to produce and be a top line player |

Ottawa should now flip that pick along with Brannstrom, Jarventi, and another pick (conditionnal on making the playoffs?) to Calgary for an extended Elias Lindholm. |

Great deal by Yzerman... we'll take this deal all day long in Detroit. Didn't give up any top prospects either. DeBrincat is only 25 and should add to our core forwards. |

In just the last 24 hours, Ek and his sources had NYI, Calgary, and Detroit discussing DeBrincat. I could see NYI. But why would Calgary be involved in any way? Mind you, on July 1 the hot rumour was the Sens wanted DeBrincat moved that DAY! I guess it took 8 more days. Oh well. The teams that missed on DeBrincat will set their sights on Yamamoto now. Dominos. |

From Detroit's perspective, this deal is a win. Dorion did what he could and all things considered, I am ok with the return.

I think it was pretty much a win-win for both teams. Dorian did what he had to... and he did get a first rounder. Kublik has a rocket of a shot that will net you some goals if you have a good setup man feeding him passes. Losing Sebrango wasn't going to hurt the Wings who have better defensive prospects ahead of him in the pipeline. |

We basically rented Debrincat for a year and got a middle six winger and a 1st. I'm happy. Moving on |

Vrana, Hronek, Zadina, now Kubalik. All gone. Beginning to think Yzerman isn’t real keen on Czech players. |
