I cant figure out the math for the canes. They are at $79M+ right now. They have 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies and thats with Kochetkov buried in the minors. How does Tarasenko fit? do they keep kochetkov in the minors all year? Once he gets back to the NHL, their cap hit of $850k goes to $2M. They wont only have only 6D either. So they have $4M to pay Tarasenko, at least 1 more D-man and never call up Kochetkov? thats some bad math there.

Suzuki isn’t going to be in the big club next year. Replace his contract with Coghlan’s, there’s 7 defenseman. Add Tarasenko that’s 12 forwards to start the year, with Svech on IR(not LTIR) making 13 and 7 dmen. Strike the “agreed in principle” TDA trade and they could roll into next year as is. But I see them making a trade regardless. Because I have a hard time believing they’ll go into next year with a d core that looks like:
Slavin-Burns
Skeji-Pesce
Orlov-Chatfield
Feels like someone’s the odd man out unless the plan is to treat Skeji/Pesce as rentals. I just don’t think you pay a guy 7.75 mil to play 3rd pairing or over 5 if Skeji gets moved down for that matter.

Is Carolina still pursuing DeAngelo. I know they had a deal in place with Philly but CBA rules were preventing the deal from occurring until July 7. If that deal is still in place DeAngelo has a cap hit of 5 million.
