Ugh. Cam Talbot. I'd rather they had traded for blackwood and not signed Englund. And boom. Younger goalie with possible upside. Safe to say Portillo is gonna see NHL games next season.

Blake's grand plan for the team's goaltending situation: spend $4M on 4 goaltenders and hope that one ends up being decent.

Blake’s plan is to wing it with the four goalies and stay close and then grab someone at the trade deadline. He must believe Copley can do it again.
I hope he’s correct but I have my doubts.

Not ideal. The Copley/Talbot tandem doesn't inspire much confidence. The ceiling on those two? Realistically it is league average. Blake clearly sees the position like many in the NHL which is similar to how NFL player personnel folks see running backs. Some teams just don't see goaltending as game changers and they'd rather spend precious cap dollars on skaters. To be fair, the fact that Hill and Kreumper were starting goalies for the last two Cup winners somewhat supports that approach.

Right, and the goalie acquired at the deadline will likely be a UFA and may well cost a 1st round pick again, especially since Blake will be desperate again.

I believe the difference might be the cap space. Kopitar will probably sign for less and the cap moving up the following season.

Maybe, but he still may have to give up a 1st round pick to acquire the goalie, and that goalie may easily decide to go to free agency or ask for too much to re-sign again. Rumor is that Blake was trying to re-sign Korpisalo, but it looks like Joonas was asking for too much. Blake then made enough cap space to sign a good goalie and spent it on Dubois, instead. Who knows what shiny toy will catch his interest next Summer and cause him to spend his cap space on that instead of a goalie. Maybe it'll be Matthews, if he makes it to free agency.

Sounds like a 2yr extension with a $7M AAV
