It was a mistake for CF to bring in Hayes and TDA in the first place, but tying up 2 of 3 retention slots on players just because your coach doesn't care for them will carry an opportunity cost. |

Just in time for the league-wide cap crunch to get alleviated. |

Still doesn't change what he said though. Rather have bought out Tony D and keep the retention slot to be a middle man to help out another team while gaining assets.
The coach is an immature individual. They will go nowhere with him at the helm. He will do more damage than good.
Flyers haven't been a destination for a long time now. Having Torts makes it worse. Free agents will bypass this team unless a severe overpay or no other options.
Danny made a good 1st trade, very very skeptical of what has gone down since in terms of the trades he wants to make.

I am glad Krug refused. If that was the deal that was terrible. Rather keep Sanheim than take that proposed package back.
Bill what are your thoughts on the deal you mentioned in your blog? Would you have done it? - hello it's me 2050
Krug for 4 years…and maybe you could flip him? But to me the extra 1rst rnd pick was the key and made it a solid deal for the Flyers. It also got them away from another poor contract. Sanheim is an ok d man that has never been consistent enough to warrant that $ and that term. It reeked of a panic move from the previous GM. But alas we move on. |

Nice mock btw Bill. It's one of the few I've seen where the picks actually make sense in the context of each selecting team.
Dvorsky has a pretty high ceiling but it's gonna take a lot of patient development to hit it. Honzek is a decent swing at #22 too. |

Later, "Torts" scratched Hayes for a game against the New York Rangers (Hayes' former team and a high-profile match on national television).
I heard Torts didn't actually know Hayes used to play for the Rangers. |

I will take my chances you can move Sanheim down the line for something better than that deal.
A pick in the late 20's and Krug doesn't seem all that valuable to me. Especially is rumors are true other teams like Sanheim.

As far as Torts being immature…I wouldn’t go that far. I still believe that’s why he was brought in. He wants guys that commit to the system. Both ends of the ice. Guys that don’t won’t be here. It’s a standard that needed to be addressed after watching this team sleep walk through games and offer little push back when things didn’t go their way over 2 brutal seasons. Is he the guy for the future ? No. But in order to set a foundation for a team that will lack talent, I’m fine with him for another season or two. |

My prediction for today is that Laughton goes to the Avs. They picked up two good picks in the Newhook trade, and Laughton would be a good fit there. |

How does Armstrong essentially finalize a deal of that magnitude involving a player with a NTC, and not discuss it with that player first? What a loser |

They may like him…but at what price? In a week he has a no trade clause and could settle in for the next 8 years. If they can dump him, they should do it now. We just saw a decent NHL player get traded for basically nothing….the contract matters. |

Seems like Hayes told his buddy Krug to hold firm so they could play together.

Not a Musty fan, don't think he amounts to much at the NHL level. Big Brindley fan as seen him so many times over the years. Always liked him since Pee Wee hockey. Just always stood out. I think he will be good NHL player. Has that drive which will lead him to success. Funny thing is his dad is a big guy. |

That’s a fair point but with TDA, that retention slot only lasts 1 year as opposed to Hayes at 3. So the Flyers will have that slot back by this time next year. Of all the contracts they still are trying to move, there doesn’t seem to be any that they will have to retain in the long run. Keep one open in case they can score something sweet for being the 3rd team in a trade or maybe the TDA being mixed was a blessing in disguise and someone will take him for a year as is and send us a reclamation project. Regardless, this is fun to speculate, spitball, and complain. I’m just hoping that this sour group of perpetually disappointed Flyers fans (myself certainly included) will have something fun to cheer about within the next 12 hours.
Here’s hoping. 🍻 |

Makes sense. And I’d be happy for Laughton. He’s paid his dues with this sad sack organ I zation.
I’d love to get Michov, but expect him to be taken before 7. Hoping the Newhook deal steers MTL toward a Dman. But I think Michov goes to the Sharks at 4 |

All good points. The jury is still out for GMDB for sure but, he’s not only tasked with the rebuild, but before he can he must clear the landscape of the debris and obstructions already there. Hayes was a necessary move as a part of the grand plan. But if the TDA doesn’t go through it’s not like the Flyers are in desperate need to play him nor do they truly need his cap space this year so they can wait it out until the trade deadline or the expiration. |

to me he isnt a cap dump and some stiff. I dont like his deal though I don't just trade him to trade him.
I want him gone dont get me wrong. Late 1st and Krug they should be able to do better imo

I was told it was all Briere's fault.

While Briere may dabble in it as part of the human-resources responsibilities of his position, Tortorella will not be conducting any exit interviews with the players.
Since there is no official historical record of such behind-doors goings-on, Tortorella’s decision to clasp his hands over his ears cannot be declared unprecedented. But it’s rare, particularly in modern times, when if there is anything grown-ups like, it is to call meetings to discuss things. And it’s just because the head coach is tired of listening to his players and, more to the point, vice-versa. To his credit, Tortorella has even admitted to being weary of listening to himself.
--------
I don't know if Torts actually did talk to the players individually sometime after the article or how much exit interviews with the coach matter but that sounds a little immature. I know the players talked to the media. |

Danny imo should have fired the coach and built it his way.
Would really like to know if he had the authority to do so or he kept Torts on his own.
