Michael DeRosa: Canucks' Ethan Bear to Miss Beginning of 2023-24 Regular Season

I have no doubt the Canucks will qualify Ethan Bear before the end of June, letting him walk for free would be silly with the way the Canucks have to deal with injuries to defensemen every year.

That said, they definitely need to change their defense to a bigger, heavier group, but that's a separate issue from just letting an asset walk for free. Two different birds...if you will.

Canucks shouldn’t make any trades. They should be in cup contention running with this same roster. We surely don’t want to mess with this teams chemistry.

Bear will sign his QO I'm guessing then be put on LTIR when season starts. When healthy Canucks will have someone else injured and enough cap space. Woo might get a chance to be the 4th RHD.

There is a perception among hockey fans that Leo Carlsson is a much better prospect than Slafkovsky...presumably because he had more regular season pts versus men. The only trait where I'd give Leo a better mark is playmaking. Slaf was infinitely better than Leo at the Worlds.
