Honestly this is a fantastic hire. He will do very well without the Toronto shackles.

Good place for him. That team is derelict of youth. The 35 year old core players rule the roost. It'll just be a retool that will go nowhere. It doesn't happen until the core of the Penguins are usurped and moved elsewhere.

I suppose all of us experts can start chiming in on who he should name as the worst choice for GM. I'd guess given the delay in this announcement he's already made his list and probably even talked to some of the candidates.

“You won’t see me popping up somewhere else in a week from now”!! He was right, it was two weeks.

“It’s hard on the family”!! So I think I’ll uproot them and move them to……Pittsburgh.

How dare they let the greatest player of his generation have a say in how the team is constructed. What does a guy who has won three Stanley Cups know about hockey teams?!?

Probably not, but...if that turns out to be true Botterill and his reputation as a cap numbers guru more-so than a brilliant evaluator or talent and team fit would seem like a good fit.

Pens need a youth injection.....I guess starting with the Gm makes sense.

That being said, Dubas probably has more pressure in Pittsburgh than Toronto given the tight window.

edit: did not see he's been named team president

Honestly this is a fantastic hire. He will do very well without the Toronto ugly socialist tax system.

Context matters. He got the rug pulled out from under him. You think things would improve for his family in Toronto after not getting extended by the Leafs under those circumstances?

At the time, all signs pointed to Dubas being brought back (literally had a contract agreed to in principal if I recall correctly). So I'm sure it was hard to envision going elsewhere. However, when you all of a sudden have no job, priorities change.

This is not hard to fathom at all. No matter how much money you make, going from a paycheck one week to none in a month, people shift their focus.
