Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Netting the Profit With the Habs being out of the playoffs this year, I must admit that I’ve taken a particular interest in the World Championship and more specifically in one player’s performance.

Funny, but I was thinking Grubauer signed long term deal up in Seattle....

As far as addressing the goalie conundrum, signing or extending Monty would be wise as we have not seen just how good he might become.

The other goalies in the system are either too young to make decision on, or looking like their peak is now being seen....and it is not #1 NHL goalie level.

An interesting option might be Philly's Carter Hart....

Habs have until June 1st to sign Dichow, or they lose his rights. Not saying they can't sign him after that, but I think it would be already done if they wanted him. Unless they wait and sign him to a two-way AHL deal, but I doubt he would accept that. He would make more money by staying in Europe.

Their pro goaltending depth right now is Allen, Montembault, Primeau and Dobes.

They will at least add a guy on a AHL/ECHL contract.

thanks Karine I hope you're feeling better. you sure don't seem like the type of person to take breaks, you haven't really ever stopped providing us content on a regular basis...

anyway I too am impressed with Montembeault, as I've noticed a very clear progression in his game since he joined the habs. he looks more confident in his net, and even after being scored on he usually remains focused enough to battle it out and keep his team in the game.

the only thing I'm wondering though is about his ceiling in terms of his development, I know that goalies can reach their full potential much later compared to forwards or defensemen, but at 26 can we really expect that he continues to significantly improve his game? I'm genuinely asking the question, because I know goaltenders can often be peculiar and unpredictable, and perhaps just like Primeau and other young goalies, his development was impeded because of those damn covid years.

I'm curious what the asking price would be, the flyers will want to fetch the biggest return possible but if there aren't any bidding wars for goalies they might have to lower their expectations, which could be interesting for the habs lol.

the jets are surely planning on offering him an extension, it would be foolish not to, when you have a solid goalie you keep him.

The problem is if when looking at the offer, you decide it is pretty rich and therefore fair, and he is not signing. Now what.....or when actually. Last year of his contract, where will the best value be found...this summer trade, or TDL next season.

he's a pretty big part of that team though, and one of the main reasons they've been able to remain competitive, the only way I'd see the jets part ways with him is if they opt for a reconstruction, or if they have a young up and coming superstar goalie I'm not aware of.

The next Long Term Goaltender for the Montreal faithful is none other than Gabriel D’Aigle.

He will be the last “missing piece” they add through the draft when they’re determinably ready to take the next step.
Calling it out now.

not sure how you know about the kid but he's 16 years old lol... anyway it'll be pretty impressive if it all happens as you're predicting it, so early on.

huh, it's less than I expected, I thought he'd be simply expelled from this year's tournament.

Busy week ahead for a couple of Canadian teams. Craig Conroy will be named the GM of the Calgary Flames, while the Maple Leafs begin their GM process in earnest. Expect other additions in Calgary as well.

sil lui reste des matchs a purger apres le tournoi, je serais pas surppris que ce soit transferable, du moins sur la scène internationale

oh I know, and he could even have games left to purge in the next international tournament if team Canada doesn't play at least 5 more games this year.

this

so it is worst than expelling him from the tournament

he most likely wont have finished up his 5 games in this tournament

can't say I necessarily disagree with these consequences either, it was a pretty dumb (frank)ing move after all, not sure what he was thinking... perhaps he wasn't thinking at all, which is kind of important to prevent yourself from doing dumb poop in the first place.
