Kerfoot has been good - much better than during the regular season… nice surprise - his speed and ability to finish has really been good.

One thing I’ve seen mentioned is with Holl out Gio has much more responsibility esp on PK and that may be contributing to how bad he’s been - which is really bad.

I think Keefe goes to 7 Dmen -

Re: Matthews for Makar.

Would the Avs really turn do the opportunity to have a 1-2 punch of MacK and AM34? They lost this year because the didn’t have Kadri.

Matthews might end up being the best American player of all time, would they really pass up the opportunity to market that? Makar is phenomenal, no denying that, but he doesn’t draw like Matthews does. I still think at this time Matthews is a tad bit better than Makar. His 200ft game is rare amongst centres.

If the Leafs don’t beat Florida, is it really much different than not winning a round? Did they achieve anything? I don’t think they did.

There will be movement if they don’t beat Florida. At this point there’s no chance Keefe will want Nylander on his roster next year, especially since they can get a very good player in a trade for him. They HAVE to re-sign ROR.

So they might as well go all-in on shaking up the roster. Do everything you can to improve the defence. Holl, Old Gio, Blowdie, aren’t getting it done.

Trade Nylander and Matthews. Get Makar, and a maybe a guy like Suzuki/Barzal/Stephenson (defensive minded) for Nylander. The core isn’t working. The culture needs to be changed.

As I pointed out previously - They would not do it.. Because finding the next Makar is really hard .. if not impossible.

And it leads to idiotic decisions like giving Nurse, a 2nd pair D man at best 9.25 a yr...

It may happen... who knows... but he would be out of work for about 3 seconds. And who pray tell do you have in mind to replace him... because if he or she is not better.. than what'a got ???

They’d never find another Makar.

But they’d never have a chance to trade for a guy like Matthews, too. It is a business, he’d bring in a lot of money, and possibly other players.

I have no idea what your second point is about, but noted.

2nd point ... Oilers.. 2 Iconic F's and up to this point no quality D .. so you end up with the Nurse situation.

Ah, ok.

Well Byram and Toews are both really good.

No two situations are the same.

You could add Girard to that as well...

And with the Landeskog situation up in the air... I don't really knows if he ever really gets back... AM34 would be very tempting..

If I was Leafs I would be more tempted to do the deal but with Toews and Byram instead of Makar.

I think they might have missed Landeskog, Nichushkin and Manson slightly more. Makar is pretty much untouchable. As good as Matthews is, Makar has a skill set that is much harder to replace.

Colorado would probably never consider trading Makar for anyone, but they are definitely never going to consider trading a fully extended Makar at a reasonable number for Matthews who's one year away from potentially milking the UFA market for every penny its worth.

It's the kind of idea that isn't worth validating with discussion when we're at a point where the leafs performance has dredged out peons like Max with his fire Dubas BS.

I think it has to be elite talent for elite talent.

With Landy potentially gone for good, they need to fill that position.

I just think it makes sense for both teams. The Avs can’t be to pleased with getting bounced in the first round, especially by a team like SEA (who are actually better than people think.

Kadri was phenomenal for them in the playoffs.

Nish and Manson, both solid, but not even close to Naz.

I really don’t think Makar is any better, or brings more to a team than AM34 does.

I still think they get past Seattle with those guys in the lineup. The Avs also did just fine when Kadri was out injured in the Conference finals and part of the finals last year. He didn't actually get into the Finals until game 4.

All important parts of the team.

I guess I just find it funny how people are trying to undervalue Matthews in this proposal.

You don’t think COL wouldn’t think long and hard about trading for Matthews? Of course they would.

You’re right. I wouldn’t trade Matthews for Makar because I think Makar’s game will suffer long before Matthews.

The people who undervalue Matthews really don’t like the leafs, sometimes you have to read between the lines.
