Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Is it April Fools' Day? News is few and far between in Montreal these days with the Habs missing out on the Spring tournament, but the talking heads still need to fill the airwaves and yesterday on Twitter, I saw one of the worst trade ideas ever.

Some would argue Yakupov was a bigger disapointement than Daigle

Daigle had two 51 pts season...

I would not trade the Florida pick for him, tbh.

People are also saying the Florida pick for PLD. Well, if I had to chose between him and PLD (attitude questions, contract impact, and everything else brought up), I would pick PLD 100 out of 100 times.

I would not trade the 1st or 2nd overall....not the 5th either but would I move the Habs first round pick if it ends up 7th overall...it is a tougher decision. Would Laffy be the player I would target?

I would most likely use the pick to draft a player and look towards Dubois who can play center and wing in the UFA market next summer or swing a deal this summer if the cost is reasonable. ( Florida's pick + B prospect)

HuGo have made it clear the Habs need to get bigger in their top 6 as a priority with Caufield and Suzuki not very big. Dubois would help in that regard (so have Dach and Slaf). If they are serious about signing Dubois, Laffy is not needed, the cash would need to go for a RHD.

Laraque loves to come up with controversial things to generate attention, that's his job now.

Dubois is like an inch and 5 pounds more than Lafrenière

lafreniere is 21yrs old, Dubois is 24 (both a year older this coming summer/fall).

I would prefer Dubois for the flexibility he would bring playing center and wing.

One can be had as a UFA, the other one you could probably get for below is true value because of the frustration in NY, Lafrenière is still improving his numbers are on a steady climb every year.

Why not both?

Would need to do miracles on the cap front. Someone might be willing to pay more than the Habs for Laffy. And why would Laffy be traded, he is 21, still developing.

Dubois will be on the market....Laffy, I doubt it.

What do you think it would cost realistically to acquire Laffy, a 1st overall who is 21yrs old?

Really don't know. A good pick+ good prospect at least.

I'll go with a low ball offer of Harris+2nd
