Burnt out? That a boy Zach

To be honest I'm enjoying this entire process, not the season, well kind of because as bad as their record was they played very competitive hockey. Now we just need more talent that competes like the less talented players do.

I feel like where things sit now, going into round two, this is the Maple Leafs Cup to lose.

Everyone was saying this about Boston two weeks ago. If Carolina were healthy I'd take them over anyone. I do expect Toronto to beat Florida. Boston had some critical injuries that hurt them badly.

That's why they play the games. 1 huge mistake by Fox last night cost the team dearly, and now they are watching the playoffs

Two firsts, four seconds

This draft hopefully coupled with last year’s draft should yield us insight into what a good chunk of the future core of our team is and the makeup of the talent.

Definitely prime time for a goalie in round 2. Gives the prospect time to develop as well to come in as the team hits their prime.

Hopefully Davidson makes it rain forwards in this draft. But a high end talent goalie prospect would be a nice safeguard behind Commesso and co.

6 picks in the top 56 in a deep draft.

I wonder if KD packages some picks to move up in the draft?

Is there a draft day trade where the Hawks take a short term (1 or 2 years) bad contract for another 1st or 2nd round pick in this draft or next year's draft?

It also is possible that he could move a pick or two in this draft for an earlier pick or two in next year's draft. I know this year's draft is deep, but that might incentivize some desperate GM to overpay for a pick in this draft.

Doh

Right now, the only teams I could possibly see fitting that scenario is Vancouver (slotted at #11 right now, Pittsburgh #14, and Calgary #16. Don't see any other team in the lower 16 that would be interested in moving their pick.

I hope the Panthers take out the Leafs. With that being said, I hope that Leafs pack Florida's stadium and get a loud Toronto road win or two. Their effort to stop Leaf's fans from entering their stadium is pathetic and annoys me. It should be mentioned that road teams' fans are essentially keeping that organization afloat.

Maybe I should be less bitter?

Anyway lots of fun competitive playoff hockey and am enjoying watching these kids play.

I think one of the most interesting aspects of the first round of the playoffs is the goaltenders.

Look at the goalies going home.
Vasilevskiy
Shesterkin
Hellebuyck
Fleury/Gustavsson
Sorokin/Varlamov

And those going to round 2.
Bobrovsky/Lyon
Samsonov/Woll
Raanta/Anderson
Schmid/Vanecek
Oettinger
Skinner/Campbell
Grubauer
Brossoit

Is it a case of having a hot goalie? (Remember Niemi)
Does goaltending mean a lot less if you have a strong lineup in front of them?
Do the Hawks have a Oettinger, Skinner, or Schmid currently in their system?

What about packaging 2nd round picks to move into the 2nd half of the first round or packaging some combination of 2nd(s) and 3rd(s) to move up to get a 2nd early pick in the 2nd round.

Oettinger is the best goalie in the league right now. Grubauer is the hottest. But I get your point. What you need is to have the goalie that can make the big save at the right time. (Remember when Crawford looked awful vs Arizona, everyone talking about his weak glove, but then outdueling the likes of Quick, Rask, Rinne, Anderson, Bishop/Vaselevsky.)

LBR (and I think Elbows on here) has stats (from JFresh I think) that weighs the improtance of late first round/second/third round picks. Someone who follows JFresh can answer it better, but my understanding is once you get into the later first/second round, you don't gain much advantage to move up in picks (unless you really want a player still on the board).

It is different doing it in the other teams building so you don't have to see them celebrating.

It is often just assumed here that rebuilds work. The reality is that they often don't. This is why teams that have an aging group of great players are often hesitant to start over.

Trouba, Panarin, Fox, all "wanted" to play in New York and no where else, interesting.

I think it's the reason they are relevant again just like the Devils, Kings and so on

What is it 5 or 6 NHL players? Out of that lot

so ive been avoiding watching Bedard highlights as i really would like this player. the kid has the best shot ive ever seen. his accuracy and at all angles are untouched by anyone else ive seen at his age.
