I don't think we're going to spend $6 million in goal this year. Agreed a "prove your healthy" contract offer to Jarry is currently the best looking option.

Offer sheet Swayman for $4.2M x 5. Only cost you a 2nd round pick.

I think I might be down with this...but first you have to have a GM that will offer sheet, very rare any will...but even before that you have to have a GM haha

I believe the most prudent thing to do is give Jarry a prove it contract, and find a much more competent back-up option than DeSmith. If the goaltending free agency is as bad as it sounds, it's a great time to improve the back-up.

If your able to do that, (I doubt it, he would one of be the best goalie to hit the market) trade for Vlader to be your BU. Calgary has a cheaper and very good option with Wolf, who is still on an ELC.

However what about trading for Spencer Knight? FLA being in cap hell and stuck with Bob may go with Lyon for 1-2yrs.

Bergevin is a good friend of Lemieux and he is available, he's only an advisor with LAK. Bergevin the new GM....and he loves offer sheet.

Jarry loaded with incentives.

Is Blomqvist staying in North America? I realize he isn't ready, but it doesn't look like Linberg is taking the bull by the horns.

Our goaltender situation depends on Jarry. Making a trade or signing free agents is easy to say. Doing it AND having it work out is difficult.

Sounds like a terrible hire. Burke and Hextall were friends of Mario too. Worked out well.

How'd you feel about Bergevin's time in Montreal? I have quite a few Habs loving people in my life. I don't think they were overly impressed with him. I don't want him. I don't want a retread. I want fresh and new outlooks and perspectives haha

Honestly, not that bad. I think moving on from Montréal is good for him, have a different perspective on how the position can be filled, and the time since his firing probably allowed him to gain insight into the mistakes he made. If he hasn't, you shouldn't take him. but if he has, it could be interesting as he's much better at trades than at drafting.

Realistically they should be looking for a 3-4 man team for roster construction. The best people in any business are able to surround themselves with the right people to help them. Ex player, cap/stats guy, business guy and head of hockey honcho. Checks balances and no egos.

One of the problems with the Penguins organization over the last 5 years has been the "yes man" mentality. Rutherford surrounded himself with assistant GMs who always went along with him. Hextall came in and never had his own vision, he always tried to appease the people around him.

Ownership needs to set the tone at the top and then fill these key positions with people willing to make tough decisions and map out the next 5+ years of this organization.

They should just be worried about being the best team possible next year.

Ex nhl player? No ego there. Cap stats guy? Wilson is a stars guy and he is only ego. I’m head honcho? No ego there.

The Penguins need to get more out of their goaltending. It should be one of the focal points this summer. Problem is there aren’t a lot of great free agent options. The market is so underwhelming that re-signing Tristan Jarry on a very short term deal might be one of the more prudent paths. So yeah, not a great free agent class.

The problem is that Jarry (or his agent rather) can probably use the current market and the Pens' desperate situation to squeeze out a very favorable contract to him. In theory Jarry could demand a long term contract, knowing full well that his current injuries are career-affecting. The Pens would have to let him walk in this case (provided they are certain his injuries are career-affecting). If they think they can still play then it becomes a very major decision, if his agent tries to get as much as possible.

I think no matter what they do it is a huge gamble that will significantly affect the tail end of the Crosby/Malkin era. Whomever they hire as the new GM he will face this critical decision and it will likely define his tenure as GM.

Let's hope they don't bring in Pierre Mcguire for any interviews. Just the fact that he got interviews before made the Pens a laughingstock.
