Devils probably deserved a better fate than a 5-1 loss, at least based on the parts of the game I watched, which was most of the 2nd and about half of the 3rd. I'm not sure I've seen a team control that much of a game and have the score be that lopsided the other way.

Goaltending. I watched part of the game, too. (I was going back and forth with the Leafs - Bolts game. Leafs will win the Cup for sure. ) Shesterkin would have pitched a shut-out but for that late penalty shot by Hughes. Vanacek was meh...

Devils are too young. Tons of skill built for a PP much like the leafs. Drury has brought in cup winning top tier talent mixed with a strong back line and great goaltending. Look out

Sorokin was better than the other great NY goalie during the regular season. He gives the Isles a chance if they can get some scoring.

John Tonelli for HOF

Haven’t seen that guy on the main thread for awhile. Does he still post here?

Saw last night that they had 4 PP opportunities and the Rangers held them to zero shots across all of them. That's pretty impressive.

That's an Islanders-level PP

They weren’t so hot in the first period. I was switching back and forth between the Leafs game and this one. I do agree they deserved a better fate but the Rangers came out with a purpose. Played with desperation. Need to see that same level of determination/desperation tonight from our team. That last game didn’t even feel like a playoff game. What I watched yesterday did. I still feel the islanders are right there but they have to turn it up a couple notches.

Also, Vanacek was pretty putrid for them in net.

The parts of the game I watched, Shesterkin was standing on his head. Still, both home teams got embarrassed last night.

I’ll say it before anyone else does. Need Horvat to start scoring. If all anyone is talking about are his FO %’s he’s not playing good.

Like you said the devils are young and are cutting their teeth with playoff hockey. Almost expected to me. Their goaltending is also suspect. Love to make it past the canes and face the rangers in the 2nd round.

Not taking anything away from the Rangers, but the Devils are not a playoff team yet. The rangers will probably win that series 4-1, and have all their players uninjured or bruised 😂😂. I would have loved to have gotten the Devils in the first round.

Yeah, I didn't see the first two, but the third goal on Vanacek was...not one you want to let up when your team's pushing the pace while down 2-0 in the playoffs.

In fairness, the Devils did manage to keep the Rangers off the board on those 4 PPs.

Bolduc was...ah...a bit of an adventure the other night. But still, I can't find it within myself to call for Wotherspoon with any kind of real enthusiasm.

I thought Bolduc and Aho held their own last game. Not sure if it’ll hold up but hopefully it does.

Neither is ideal. Hopefully Romanov is getting closer but if he's not skating with the team then he's not really all that close yet

I have no real problems with Aho. He's not a star in any sense of the word but he's absolutely a solid 3rd pairing guy that can move the puck and get some PP work.

Bolduc wasn't bad but wasn't great either last game. It's going to be real hard to, essentially, roll 5 defenseman against this forecheck with Bolduc getting pretty limited minutes. He only played 8:51 in game 1.

Yep but we’re kind of stuck there. Even if Romanov does wind up coming back this series I have low expectations with what kind of impact he will have after being out for as long as he has. Have to make do and more importantly they have to find a way to get more pucks to the net. The Canes main weakness is their goaltending have to start capitalizing on that. Tough to do with their defense I get it but it’s either that or this will be a short series.
