A typical DeSmith performance would not have been good enough.

lol, Jarry has been trash since coming back from injury but hey let's ignore that.

Like a lot of other players, usually not at their best after long layoffs for a bit. The first game he let in 3 vs the Isles, two of which were leaky but the skaters in front of him dominated for the most part but couldn't get enough past Sorokin. The second game he was tossed to the wolves aka the Oilers with the team playing like absolute dog sh!t in from of him. That game alone, with 7 goals against, has his stats in the time period since coming back pretty skewed. The other times he has come back from injury it has taken a few weeks to round into form....no guarantee he stays healthy that long haha

Unfortunately, I dont think Poehling is even part of the Nylander equation at the moment. Both Rust and Granny were out last night. If they were good to go Nylander wouldn't of even been in lineup. If they're both good to go again the decision for Sully will most likely be Nylander or Heinen and in saying that I dont even know if Nylander can stay up if both those players can play, he was up on emergency basis. Someone who understands roster moves, compliancy, paper transactions and what not might be able to educate on the matter.

It would be so sh!tty for him not to get some more looks. He looked like that coveted missing call up spark we talk about here sometimes. I know its only one game and vs lesser competition but still...he looked fantastic.

- MattStrat

Agree. He really popped out to me especially on Malkin's line and I'd like to see more. They got him as a reclamation project a year ago might as well see what he can do.

I believe you're right. They would have had to send him down. With Poehling going on LTIR though they will probably want a 13th forward and I don't see why not Nylander.

Now will Sully play him at all let alone in a top 9 role if everyone is healthy? I'd have to see it to believe it.

Doesn't fit the narrative that the team would be fine if Hextall just got more forwards

I feel like most people around here wanted some sort of goalie insurance, no?

While I would have preferred OTHER forwards since he went that route, I feel like finding a cheap veteran goalie vs. trading for Kulikov should have been a priority.

Yeah, everyone here wanted a better back up than the back up who's been way better than the starter since the starter came back hahaha

Agree people here wanted that.

I think Kulikov was more a salary then a target, although I also didn't think he'd play over POJ. I'm sure the market for people who would take McGinn was pretty small lol.

The issue is the Penguins cap situation. He was recalled on an emergency basis.

The cap problem isn't the problem with Nylander, the cap is why they could only dress 11 forwards. As an emergency, Nylander can be returned without clearing waivers.
Also, as an emergency, he must be returned as soon as the team has 12? forwards available. If the Penguins choose to keep him up, he will have to clear waivers to send back down.

My money is on sending him down when they get Rust and Granlund back. That will allow them to bank the meager cap space and make another call up later without LTIR relief. That will be critical if there is an injury in the last 10 games when LTIR will not be available for new injury.

Oh yeah, guy on expiring salary for sure. Surprised that you didn't think he was going to play over POJ lol that's exactly the Sully move I expected. Kulikov gets 15 minutes of TOI and POJ gets.. 6? lol big ole' woofburger.

Even if we didn't trade for Granlund, wouldn't you be a little uneasy giving Zucker another contract? He could easily get hurt again and be trash. This is his 4th season here and his first good one haha

So you think they'll bring up a guy like Caggiula instead? I don't see them staying at 12 forwards.

If it's just to eat nachos during games I'm fine with that. If not, I'd just as soon give Nylander his shot and risk waivers. I don't think he factors big into their plans.

He was good his first year. But tough call. I'd have to weigh it against possible replacements. Can easily see it going bad, but honestly that's half the team anymore.

Honestly, not sure. Given how well he's been playing with Malkin, I would probably feel comfortable giving him a 2-3 year deal if he'd take it. There aren't a lot of options in FA unless you're looking for reclamation/change of scenery hopefuls, or guys in the same age/price range as Zucker.

Probably looking at Nyquist, Tatar, Dadonov, Killorn, Sheary, Johansson, etc.

With Zucker actually fitting with Geno, I'd probably just resign him.

Probably going to be the same thought process with any of his replacements too, tbh lol

He’s allowed 4 or more in 3 of 6 starts since returning.
