First!!!

With the current line-up, I can't imagine the Hawks winning another game this year.

That said, the Sens always surprise us. Think we've won like 9 straight against them. But we've never had a team like this even in the ABC line years.

Hawks won the ADB trade if only it helped the tank.

I cringe when you compare KK to Klingberg, who has amassed the worst defensive metrics on the worst defensive team in the league this year. (yes that even includes Murphy).

Going back to the previous thread, the discussion drifted to how to reach the salary floor next season. I saw comments that suggested that they would have to sign free agents to contracts with some term. This is how I see it being done...

1. Lots of teams are going to be in cap hell this summer. I expect to see KD extracting contracts with one or two years remaining that the other GMs want to move. Just like with Zaitsev and D*ckinson, reaping draft picks for the service. Or Mrazek, where they traded up in the draft in exchange for taking his contract.

2. One year deals offered to free agents who can't find a home this summer, just as they did with Domi and AA last summer. Both sides know the drill. A deadline trade is the goal. Draft pick(s) for KD, and a chance at a Cup for the player who signs here.

3. The God forbid possibility, adding LTIR players as we saw the Yotes do at this deadline.

Signing free agents to term here doesn't work for anybody. Few free agents want to be stuck in a rebuild, and KD isn't going to want to have any more unmovable contracts than he already does.

And of course the caveat is if they do get Bedard, all bets are off on how they proceed.

You have to include we lost Ogi with that trade.

Notre Dame was eliminated from the big 10 hockey tournament and I doubt if they will be invited to the Frozen Four tourney. Their season is over.

Wonder if the Hawks will sign Slaggert and allow him to burn the 1st year of his ELC by finishing the season here.

He would probably want to finish his school year?

Wasnt a fan of that comparison either, I just went based on what was listed on his original draft report

I could see the W. Nylander trade often rumored happening this summer.

Good example. They also have TJ Brodie expiring next year, though he has a 10 team NTC. Guessing the Hawks are on it now.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to trade Tavares than Nylander? Tavares is much older and certainly isn’t getting any faster.

ADB should have been the next to where the "C". Where's the leadership going to come from in the next few years. S Jones? Murphy? Scary to think about knowing they'll slap in on Bedard if we get him, or give it to someone wearing an "A" today. Great teams need great leaders. Luke's got double duties until a player worthy of the "C" emerges.

Good point. I'll have to amend my post to say that teams like Carolina and Buffalo, teams in playoff contention and with a lot of cap space, are ahead of the Hawks in the pecking order for these contracts, because they will have more inclination to pay up. (Plus I didn't realize Nylander had ramped up his game. Probably thinking too much about his brother's time here.) Once those possibilities get exhausted, then the Hawks are going to be extracting the more problematic contracts and adding draft picks.

Well I got to see what was left of the 2022-23 Hawks and Preds up close and personal last Saturday. 9th row, behind the visitors bench.

Lots of well behaved Preds fans, I forgot who mentioned it but yes the music is way too loud during breaks. I don't know what the attendance was but the suites at either end of the rink were empty.

Nice opening goal from the Hawks which occurred right in front of us. After that, a whole lot of nothing really. The new guy Englund I believe, plays it old school. None of this stick checking stuff for him. Tries to separate the man from the puck. It worked only half the time I think. Murphy had a blow out exiting the zone once.

I did keep an eye on Reichell and I hope I'm wrong but, the Hawks may have Dylan Sikura 2.0 in him. He's not going to hurt you defensively but he's also not going to break the game open for you either. I hope there is more to his game then I saw because what I saw wasn't much.

It was still a good time and it's always nice to see these guys up close and playing at that speed. Yea they weren't the best in the world but I can still appreciate the skill it takes to do that.

KD likes "speed" players and Nylander plays pretty fast.

i don't see the Leafs consider trading Nylander unless and until they sign Matthews beyond 23-24. My guess Muzzin goes on LTIR, and the Leafs do what the Leafs do and fill out their roster with players making $1-$2 million.

If the Leafs go out quickly again these playoffs I’d guess that Dubas will be gone and there will be a major shake up. There’s only so many times they can try to put a square peg in a round hole.

It is refreshing to watch two teams go through the same things the Hawks did from 2017-2021. Pittsburgh and Washington still have the band together, even though they’re not really in a contending position. Neither team would put up much of a fight vs Boston in the first round.

Washington reshuffled the deck a bit at the deadline dealing Orlov and Hathaway, but still have the shell of Backstrom there.

Pittsburgh might be in the worst cap hell of anyone. They’re paying Letang until he’s 41. They have two defensemen under the age of 31. Crosby is still great but he can’t do it alone. They are going to be uniquely awful once the wheels finally fall off.

Pittsburgh's situation isn't quite the worst, lucky for them. ~$21 mill for 9 spots. The Caps have ~$9.5 mill for 7 spots. Anthony Mantha, come on down!

Looking at what teams received for cap space at the deadline, I can see why Mrazek + a 1st cost a 2nd round pick last draft.

Caps do not have a 2024 2nd and doubt they spend a 1st to lose Mantha's contract. Backstrom's maybe *shame he has a NMC I would do that deal, nets us a future 1st and gets us $9 mil closer to the floor for next 2 seasons)

Imagine if they put Stan in as GM. Q and Stan are going through some program to get back into the league. Q is an obvious choice for any team looking to win, Stan…
If Chiarelli could get rehired, anyone can I guess.
