ON the Kane trade ! the hawks should have not settled for anything less than a young prospect, one of either Lafreniere or Kakko, and than a second round pick. Of all the movies they made, there is no one , they, picked up who will be on this roster next year full time .

Zach Jarom: A Deadline of Mix Feelings
- Zach Jarom

No mixed feelings here.. Long suffering Hawk fan. Decades of losing and mediocrity. Then, after watching from the Hawks disappointment of early 70's and Lemaire's killer goal...onto 3 more decades of good, bad and ugly...but no Cup! Finally, 2010....and 13...and 15. Relief and joy. A magical 6-7 years of great competitive hockey.

So, YES. Loved Kane, and the fact he helped deliver those Cups. But, his best years are long passed. I wish him well, and hope Rangers can get to Finals or Semi's. Even a Cup. Can live with that too. Especially for Patrick.

But, it was time. He had to be traded. And, if Toews get healthy, and wants to move on. Wish him well too.

The "Life-long" Hawk thing means little or nothing to me. Bourque is a Bruin. Didn't play his life there, but he is a Bruin. Gretzky is an Oiler. And Kane will ALWAYS be a Hawk. WE now have a crap-load of 1st and 2nd rounders the next 3 years. Grab a Top 3 stud with this years draft, and hopefully a few more hit. Then we can begin the march back to "Great" again.

Overall....as a deadline.....throughout the league....the best ever I think. Especially the East. Toronto added the grit they missed. Tampa did normal Tampa improving, Jersey added a mega-stud in Meier. The Rangers added big time, Bruins already stacked, got more stacked. Even Sens a decent add at a reduced price in landing Chychrun. It will be a great playoffs....cuz a couple loaded teams will be out in a week or so.

No, no mixed feelings here. Hawks did what should have been done.

Good Luck Patty. And hope for Bedard.....

Give credit to the Chicago front office they have cleaned house in one season and ready for the future. Good luck at draft time.

Agree with all your points. For me its strange feeling because this was the first group of players that I followed from draft all the way to the top of the mountain. So while at the end of the day it was the right move its still one of those gut punch feelings if that makes sense.

It was really fun watching the teams in the east just go out and try to one up each other trade after trade. one of the best deadlines in recent memory should lead to the best playoffs too and Im so ready for that.

Exactly, they had a lot of cleaning up to do after Stan and now with a clean slate its going to be interesting how they build this team. Davidson seems to have a plan lets just hope he sticks to it.

Drawing that line in the sand would have meant Kane to NY as a free agent this July - nothing to the Hawks from NY & a more difficult Tank the last 20 games.

Happy to see KD moved 88 now.

Are they going to compete for anything next year? No? Then why does it matter?

If Kane waives earlier they probably get a better deal. But he didn't so this is it. Playing hardball that close to the deadline with only one dance partner would equal no deal rather than what they got.

Yup. Watching B's vs Rangers right now. BOTH teams look pretty good and stacked. Rather watch Hawks in playoffs, but as a fan of good hockey, there are going to some super first round matches...(i.e TB vs Leafs, maybe Jersey vs Rangers)

There isn’t a switch that changes the team from “non-competing” to “competing.” It will be a long and uneven trek of progress and setbacks between now and “competitiveness.” The fact that Davidson appears disinterested in acquiring good young players able to lead his prospects whenever they are rookies 3-6 years from now is a legitimate concern.

Hated to see Kane go, but he's still got some game left and why waste it on a rebuilding project. I'm just hoping he cements himself as the greatest American born player in NHL history. And no matter if the rumors about the Hawks trying to push him out the door are true, he'll still retire as a Blackhawk.

Now let's hope they can turn all these picks into a formidable hockey team again in the next few years! Then let's see how this group deals with contracts, money, term, and NTCs. Let's hope something was learned from the last group....

I do like Richardson behind the bench. I'm hoping he'll stick around through the rebuild. They're not terrible, but look at what the have to work with. Let's go Hawks!

How is that a fact? Also, I suppose this is technically year 2 of a rebuild and one where they are trying to be bad. They aren't really in "acquire" mode, so how do you know there won't be some signings a few years down the road or even a couple character guys brought in in the offseason?

So don't make the deal because you didn't get enough? Did you see Kane start carrying this team? Kane is was a double edged sword, hurting your odds for Bedard and NMC NTC.

At times gotta set your ego aside to do what's best for the team and KiD did that.

Mine was. You know Darth's was...or should know.

Hard to say what Reichel's stats would be if he was on the team all season but I have no issue with them deliberately removing him from the situation with the Big Club and letting play big mins in RFD.

Damn, I sure HOPE Reichel develops well. I remember during the draft, so hyped up that Mercer slipped down the draft to us....then so Shocked and disappointed we ALSO passed on him and took Reichel. The Devils were quick to nab him the next pick. And, boy...he sure looking good over there.
It is still early in the careers of that draft class....but, I was disappointed on draft day, and so far justified in my disappointment. Maybe in 5 years or so Reichel has narrowed that gap, and is even better than Mercer.....that's the HOPE anyway....

Yep! Right now they just need guys to fill holes and keep the prospects from being rushed in.

Not really sure any of us can confidently "grade" the deadline moves. On Kane?- We can assume he kinda thought he was the prized fish for NYR and after the Tarensenko signing......Anything we got, And i do mean ANYTHING, was a prize. Keeping Kane was pointless. He only wanted to go to NYR(probably) There was no bidding war, No playing hardball. So Water over the dam!
The rest of the haul was maybe a little less than hoped for...But again, We have no idea what was being offered from other teams. All-in-all the deadline was a success in the fact that we received picks and became a much worse team to help the "tank".

3-6 years from now we can grade the Gm's work. Right now do you really think that some youngish player is the golden gem that leads the youth movement? Players (like Bedard and the other top picks) are the players that will lead the rookies/youth movement! Not some 29 year old journeyman defenseman. The picks being stockpiled can easily fill holes in the line-up 3-6 years from now. And all these draft picks will not play for the Hawks, A good share of them will be developed and then moved for the ""right players" that you speak of!

If we are fortunate enough to get Bedard in the draft ,that will accelerate the rebuild in a big way .I could see the Hawks making some big FA signings for 24 -25 season . If they did they may have to play hard ball with Bedard on his 1st contract . And that ok

Watching COL @ DAL. Domi skating L2 with Seguin and Marchmant. Best I can tell that makes L3 Johnston-Benn-Dadonov. L1 is Pavelski-Hintz-Robertson. The Domi/Dadonov adds makes this a pretty deep group ........ Stars clubbing them 5-1 in the 2nd.
