An F + for vertank…who proved he is out of his depth.

Really got taken to the woodshed - His tanking program depressed the marketability of his most tradable assets -

And retaing salary … are you kidding me. We should have been taking salary dumps with picks & players attached.

Decent return for Kulikov. I thought they’d be lucky to get a 3rd and they got one, plus McGinn. McGinn scores more often than our current 4th liners and plays hard in his own end - overpriced but not a cap issue like he was in Pitt.

The Ducks got their bag of pucks for Klingberg and the rights to a kid who is scoring a point a game in his junior year at Boston College. The whole Klingberg thing was a big swing and miss and raises bigger concerns about the Ducks’ talent evaluation process. I’m just glad we don’t have to talk about him any more.

Have to wonder why the Ducks didn’t get involved in brokering cap space - seems like a missed opportunity to pick up another asset or two.

This is one of the big misses.... How about Zaitsev from Ottawa.. Hawks got a 2nd and 4th for taking that... and he's an actual D man. That is just one of many misses... Vertank is over his head when he actually has to gm.

Last yr was a mirage because he had guys people wanted.. and yet the players we got.. Helleson is nowhere and Vaaks injured and now surgery.

He gets and F+ so far as gm.

Chicago has much deeper pockets than Anaheim and can afford to pay Zaitsev $4.5M to sit in the press box next year. I would have liked to see Anaheim as a broker on a UFA deal, but taking on dead cap for next year would be out of character for Ducks ownership.

I’d give PV an Incomplete grade at this point. Klingberg was a whiff but the cupboard is now well-stocked with D prospects. There is a decent core in place if those players continue to develop, and a chance to add to the core with a top 5 pick in this draft (unless they win their way out of the top 5). The next test is whether they can upgrade at this draft and to get good extensions done for Terry, Z, and D.
