If Husso and Larkin can sustain their current level of play, the team could make an actual run at a wild card position. I think the captain has grown tired of losing teammates at the trade deadline. He's taken it upon himself to prevent it from reoccurring, providing true leadership. Pay the man accordingly Steve.

8 games before the deadline. Gives Yzerman enough time to know if there is a legit chance at a playoff push. Have a hard time believing he will just sell at this rate. I could see more 'hockey' trades or possibly small buys.

He wasn't in the lineup because LaLonde didn't want to change from what's winning right now. Regardless... if they're winning or not it would be foolish not to play him.
Yzerman needs to verify if he's got his mojo back at the NHL level. Wings desperately need a legit sniper / pure goal scorer.

Edvinsson with a goal and 3 assists last night for Grand Rapids... Can't wait to see what this kid's ceiling is. I thought he was a great pick. Fingers crossed.

I think he draws in tonight. The entire team got caved in last night and a B2B on the road justifies a lineup change.

Wheeler has him 5th in his most recent NHL prospect rankings.

Only behind Cooley, Hughes, Jiricek, and Nemec.

Kid is gonna be a stud.

I agree with this... with one caveat: this will only happen if their special teams keep clicking. If the PP and PK aren't working they aren't going anywhere.

Yeah more so Husso has to continue what is likely unsustainable play and the special teams has to be borderline elite. This is still not a consistently competent 5v5 team.

EDM reminds me of the pre-cup winning Wings (without near the number of regular season wins). All the talent in the world, but no commitment to 200-foot play. Bowman changed that, Yzerman embraced it, and the rest is history. EDM isn't committed to playing strong D, they are constantly looking to press forward. Their forwards cheat up, looking for a chance to get an odd man break. Those things are fine when you really need goals and have to press, but fundamentally, it doesn't work as the season goes on, and definitely not for playoff hockey. EDM is an explosive, dangerous regular season team. I just don't think they are built to win when it counts.

Some interesting comments......could we knock on the door of a Wild Card slot? Would be nice, but the damage done to the team would be pretty epic; getting destroyed in the 1st round wouldn't help the team when it comes to enticing stud UFAs. Just my thought.

Vrana will probably play tonight (will listen in as I drive from DC to SC None of us really know what the deal is, nor what the plan is, so I'll add to the hypothesis: He plays and stays. What he's gone through is a personal thing between him & The Captain. I'd think if we were looking to move him, he'd have been in more rumors (via leaks form interested teams, agents, etc...). Regardless, I wish this kid well. It's not too late to improve his life personally....and that's THE most-important thing.

Good game last night, Husso should be in the discussion for league MVP His play has been nothing short of epic (I'm sure he won't be in the discussion, but his worth to this team is incalcuable....ok, NOT league MP-worthy, but saved our bacon TOO many times to count). Again, the 3d period bites us in the rump. It's not so much that the guys took their feet off the gas, more like EDM asserted themselves. Mo Sides was a burr in McD's saddle all night, I was impressed to see just how he ran McD all over the ice, that's probably the most defending McD's seen all season. Mo's gonna be pretty ok

So who goes and who gets 9 at the end of the season? I think Eddy comes back, but not sure anyone else does....MAYBE Tickle The Twine Elmer? He's still growing and seems to be a solid find/s. Who am I kidding; he's going to be really good.

B2B is going to be interesting to listen to. Think we'll see Sir Magnus of the Net tonight? Be nice to get him some ice time, seeing as how he has so little.....

Being a Wings fan is pretty awesome....from the days of the Dead Things to Hockeytown to Rebuild, been a helluva ride!!!!

Nice win! Rather painful to watch the Oil rally to tie it and the barely lose it.....Husso made the big saves and saved their bacon! Do they play him again tonight???
I think Vrana steps in for Zadina, and do they dare to put him on Larkin's wing and put Kubalik where Z was?

Only if they get a new crew can anyone be considered a savior. Daniels and Redmond suck.

What UFAs are you really expecting to look at? Assuming Larkin and Wallman are the only two pending UFAs kept around, then you are filling 1 spot on D and 3 on offense. We have the prospects ready to fill those gaps. I am expecting a very boring offseason unless Larkin isn't resigned.

People on CF poopting on it forget we are only a couple years removed from having both Dekeyser and Ericsson on D.

I’m not kidding when I say I have to tell myself out loud that 52 and 8 belong to new players. Had to take an extra heart pill

What you said about Vrana is dead on. A couple guys took some big hits last night. I feel like Bert doesn’t have his feet yet (though never a figure skater) it’s a lot to try to pull it all back together. My “pie in the sky” hope is that Vrana and Yzerman have an international coffee moment and things click again. Stuff happens, people change. Loved your take on Edvinsson. I was really hoping for that kid but was sure he’d be gone. Nill said he had Edv ranked #1 amongst Dmen. Usually don’t get those quotes. Loved that Seider went in with Kane. Kane can legit drop you hard. He could probably do a MMA stint if he wanted to. Seems like Seider isn’t intimidated, and Zadina made nice plays too. Fun night

Didn't they sign Patrik Nemeth to a deal that was exactly the same as this one too?

I would look at a partnership. Amazon is paying 1B per year to NFL for 16 games per season. Stay away from Disney, they’re looking close at ESPN possibly dropping. Any Michigan celebs that didn’t blow all their money?

Yes but that was more in the warm body stage of the rebuild than the competent depth stage
