Lou has lost it. Will overpay to keep him and will miss playoffs this year. Sad seeing Lou falling to this....

It's been mentioned that doing the trade now gives the Isles the opportunity to trade him again if they fall out of the playoff race by the deadline.

Isles had to do this trade imo. As long as the pick is protected I wouldn’t be upset if I’m an isles fan

Isles have been desperate for scoring for years. You have to give to get. Raty looked like he had promise and Beau offered little to nothing. Its not the worst trade we could have made but we need to do this about 2 more times. Next send wally, bailey, varlamov, mayfield and lee in some combination for more scoring.

Christ, the 'nucks should have gotten more. Two lotto tickets (neither an expensive lotto ticket either) and a bottom 6 player. Wow.

this is the first time the Canucks have done a rebuilding type transaction since 2011. What a massive W for the Canucks.

depends on the protection clause is:

top 10
does he need to resign with the Ilse
lottery protected

if the clause is activated, do they automatically get the following year 1st without restrictions?

a few more details will be a good start to see who won this one for me.

It's a decent trade. Hopefully, more on the way.

I would tend to disagree as Horvat already said he is walking to free agency. If he signs I still like Canucks side, if he walks Lou is a fool.

I see it as a big W. Islanders are two spots out of a wildcard right now. If Boston/Car/Tampa/Colorado/SEA are the teams who were rumored in on him, their 1st round picks will all likely be between 25-32, where as the Islanders pick could easily be 12-20.

Not to mention, Raty was their best center prospect. Beauvillier is meh, but i expected some sort of salary coming back to make it work for NYI.

If Bo walks this summer, LOU will be chased off of Long Island haha

there were rumors that the Canucks weren't letting any teams speak to Horvats agent about an extension. If true, Horvat is more than likely still going to test the market after he had a good production year and get whatever contract he wants.

The most recent Horvat update said this:

There is no shortage of teams here…The top one right now is Colorado. The Avs are in desperate need of a true #2 center. The loss of Kadri really has thrown the balance in the lines off… Sportsnet in Canada is reporting that the Bruins have long-term interest. Perhaps the team Which could easiest fit in Horvat long-term is Detroit

Meanwhile, the most recent mention of NYI said this:

On Timo Meier to the Islanders (e4+)

I am hearing the Islanders are all in on Meiers and it makes a ton of sense.

Nailed it.

But he never said he was testing the market. So that's just speculation.
I doubt Lou is trading a good prospect and a 1st on a whim.

For this year and maybe the next, the Islanders. Beyond that, the Canucks won this trade. They got a good haul.

The 1st is top 12 protected, still 4 lottery spots that the pick could land on.

NYI’s are not a high-skill team and Horvat needs that around him.

Isles are oldest team in the league at 29.36 and this does nothing for that. Horvat has awful contract written all over him. Career year in contract year is risky as hell
