The Bowness system(s) have certainly made a lot of players look better this year, than they did under Maurice....there were the obvious names like Morrisey / Connor / Helly/ Dubois etc...
I'm thinking more like Lowry, Dillon, DeMelo

Take a snapshot as the Jets are now FIRST PLACE in the Conference !!!

...also tied for 3rd in the NHL.

Yes, credit goes to a lot of players , great coaching, and a very good system which not only activates the Dmen more but has also moved the Maurice down low cycle up to the half boards and back up to the blue line. Those who have been around on this board for a while know how many times I preached that Maurice change his system to the modern era of hockey. Probably still using his outdated system in Florida where the talented Panthers players won't likely make the playoffs.

PLD is a number 1 center. He is for us and would be on many teams.

His ceiling is still in the future.

8 years x $9.25 get it done!

Easy to say but we have to make a big offer.

Equal value in a trade is getting tougher and tougher

I agree. This is the PLD that we saw when Columbus beat the Leafs in the playoffs how many years ago? That was the first time I had ever really watched the kid but he has been unleasehed and is playing the exact same way, game in and game out when he made such a difference in that series. It has to be at least 9.5 as look at the deal Tkachuk got and PLD is a center so something over 9.

Its just not one player though, the new systems, better còaching, consistent goal tending, added depth that stepped up during injuries.

It is blatanly apparent that the players received a much needed coaching change with open arms and suggest that mgmt was a few years too tardy in making that coaching change...... to the point that Maurice had to quit to force mgmt to make a change.

PoMo even took Kompon with him so can't imagine much changing knowing how he stuck with the same systems whether they were working or not.

I think Dylan DeMelo has been a stud on the blue-line for the Jets, an important cog. I believe Ross has always touted this guy, but this season growing on me as well.

Sure he has made the odd mistake, but what d-man doesn't? Overall probably our #2 guy, although Dillon has been a pillar as well, supplying that much needed toughness.

The players enjoy playing for Bowness so it should make it easier to resign players as long as the Jets make reasonable contract offers.

In regards to PLD;
I think at his age he has a chance to score two more big deals In his career. I just dont see him signing here long term, I don’t. But the chance to sign here for 3-4 years around 8.5, then after that he can sign wherever he wants for probably 11plus after the cap has gone up, this scenario has to have some appeal to him.

Winning is a factor for sure, as are linemates.
Ask Patrik Laine if the grass is greener on the otherside.

Don't discount his parents being here either (Dubois)

All this is why I think there is a chance we can sign him for three years, maybe 4. But I’d be blown away if he locked up here long term.

PLD has almost somewhat benefitted from being perceived as a diva in Columbus. No one expects 8 years, so 4 is a comfort to us fans while promising another payday.
If Perfetti signs for 4 on his first real payday, we’ll all be panicking

Good thoughts Ross. An 8x9m guarantees pld 72mil. To match dollars other teams need to offer 7x10.3 ish. I like Ross’s 4 year offer better because of lower risk and cap flexibility but I would do 8x9 if Pierre-Luke wants to commit to Jets

i agree, I looked at it a bit like this.

if he were to sign that big deal here or somewhere else this summer at around 8x10=80 mil he would be 33 to start his next contract. not sure how much money he would get as a 33-year-old?

if he were to sign a 3x8.5 here = 25.5mil and he would then start his next deal at 28, where teams would still pay up huge for him so probably 7x11 (or more depending on cap) = 77mil

so the first scenario, he makes 80mil and can sign a new deal at 33
2nd scenario, he makes 102.5 and can sign a new deal at 35 if he still wants to play.

If I was PLD I would be signing long-term some place - hopefully with the Jets.

Yes he could go for a 2-3 deal, but what happens if gets long-term injury or whatever. I take the sure money if I'm him - I could live on 8 years at $9 mill. It might be tough though.

Like they say "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."

The only reason to sign long term is to guarantee the money. His career could be derailed by injury (Little, Savard, Lindros, Orr, Pronger, +++) or see his play decline over the next 4 years (Dustin Penner/Milan Lucic). Signing long term puts the risk on the jets (and contract insurance)

Yes, the minus 3, and then the benching, certainly are not helping any showcasing of Heinola as a trade prospect. Also, Stanley's injury isn't helping his currency as well.

Aside from the minus 3, which is not solely on him, he fell down at least twice on his own during the game.

When will a team
Treat players equally? Pionk is a bottom 10 defender in the entire nhl this year and has had plenty big minus games yet continues to see ample ice time and has never been sat, in fact when he struggling the most all they do is rotate his partner.
Stanley should never see another game in a hets uniform. Trade him the second he is healthy before he damages any value he has left

I am also hearing that Sasha Barkov could be made available. I say go for the fences and bring in Barkov. Imagine that center depth going into the playoffs.

Or otherwise, we trade Pionk and Heinola as part of a package to get Meier and Karlsson.

This is the last all-in year the Jets will have under the current core. Also look at the message one of the trades above would send to the locker room.
