Should be interesting to see what defensive pairs they run with going forward.

With Jacob Vrana on waivers, could he be the solution the the 2LW position?
I don't know when he is supposed to return, but he is a shooter with 98 goals in 300+ games who was drafted 13th overall in 2014 and has Stanley Cup winning experience.

can they take on the cap hit? Unless there is some salary retention via trade, if he clears?

Rielly Brodie
Gio Holl
Sandin Liljegren

All three of those pairs have proven to be solid at some point so that’s who they run with so long as there is no significant injury is my bet.

Benn and Timmins will be the back ups but I’m also willing to guess Timmins takes Holl’s spot next season after his defensive play has been groomed a touch more.

Who makes $5.25m this year and next and is coming out of the Player Assistance Program and had a poor showing in his conditioning stint. Should he regain his form, he would certainly be a nice option for anyone - but that's an expensive risk to take and one that may not pay off. He also doesn't have a playoff point in his last 15 playoff games and was not a real playoff performing prior to that.

Bottom line, we can't afford him now, and he's just a risk we couldn't take.

I strongly suspect that Yzerman knows that no one is going to take a $5.25m gamble on this guy and he can extend his conditioning stint until he regains his form.

I have liked Timmins' game of late, it would be nice to move on from Holl finally.

Very good point. Not sure how the cap hit slipped my mind.

Timmins is decent but he’s not as strong as Holl defensively.

Please remember that recently it was Holl and Gio up against the top 6 of the opposition (they’ll still be the shutdown pair as well) and Timmins was on the third pairing playing against the bottom 6. His offence is notably better than Holl’s but his defence still needs some work before he’s the guy expected to shutdown the opposition’s primary forwards.

ROR with a broken foot and will be 're-evaluated' in 6 weeks.

https://twitter.com/jthom...&t=KMLj1qMKWUkNj4b-AB_Z2w

6 weeks from today is Mid Feb.

TDL is March 3rd.

I would think that will prevent any team from trading for him.

Yeah I doubt the leafs resign him, being a primary shutdown and PK guy he’ll get an offer by someone else closer to 4 million.

My main curiousity is how long will it be tbh.

M'eh. Re-evaluated could end up as a situation where he won't even be able to skate for a another couple weeks. I'm not sure I'd want to take that chance unless your giving up the equivalent of some water bottles and a bag of pucks.

Then again never underestimate old Kenny Holland......

For a low pick and C prospect....trading for an injured ROR could be a bold move that could prove to be beneficial come playoffs.

Think he’ll take a little less a season to get the full 8 years? Honest question.

I’m sure Dubas will have some great dialogue with Buntings representatives
