Hey Sean, have you watched any Sharks games?? While Karlsson is outstanding on the offensive end he is a nightmare defensively. In fact, it looks like he doesn't care about playing defense most of the time, he's like a third wing. I don't get how he helps Edmonton in the playoffs. You have plenty of guys who can score goals, you need guys who can keep them out of the net.

I don't think it is a wise move for EDM. Huge gamble that requires Karlsson remaining healthy and productive in the long term. I believe there are more appropriate teams (PIT, WSH, VGK, TBL) to make that gamble on Karlsson at least being useful in the short term competitive window.

I have. Karlsson always has the puck on his stick on his stick and is averaging over 25 minutes a game. There are bound to be turnovers and issues when you carry the puck that much and that's something that's unavoidable from even the best players.

Karlsson is one of the few positive possession players on the Sharks right now as well as only one of a few that are outscoring the opposition when he is on the ice. San Jose simply doesn't have a goaltender that can make a save and not enough good players. I don't put that on Karlsson.

Terrible idea and trade proposal. Huge overpayment even considering the salary retention. And Karlsson can't play D, is always injured, and will start to regress even if healthy soon. Was this a serious trade proposal?

I thought it was a pretty fair trade proposal for both teams, but I agree they are usually heavily slanted for the Homer team

Karlsson isn't worth half that haul. Just because he is on an offensive heater doesn't make him that valuable. His +2 rating says a lot about his defensive game when he already has so many points. Oilers need a defense first dman or 2. not more scoring with suspect play in their own zone.

If you're going to talk about numbers get that weak +/- stuff out of here. Karlsson has been on the ice for 27 of the Sharks 55 goals and for 20 against. He has been on the ice for 4 empty net goals this season.

The Oilers need to improve defensively but a big part of that is that this team is getting absolutely crushed at 5 on 5 when McDavid is not on the ice.

Huge overpay. Remove Broberg and Bourgault. Now it makes more sense.

SJ also likely won't want to retain $5M for that long. So one solution is just include Barrie in the deal. Then cut the retention to say $2.5M.

I also think your assessment is exaggerated. The forward group is not elite. Yamo and Puljujarvi are garbage. But the d-men are better than you suggest. I'd be trying to sell someone on the idea that Yamo is a legit 2nd line winger that McDavid and Drai love playing with. Try to swap him for a middle 6 guy that isn't such a wimp. Maybe Dallas moves a guy like Gurianov?

Interesting idea. 🤔

Other than the obvious (and rational) concern regarding the sustainability of Karlsson’s production, I can’t see a fit so long as Barrie remains an Oiler. Maybe Columbus would have interest as you suggested, but me thinks the better option would be to ship him back to the Sharks.

If Karlsson can keep this run up, then I’d say the offer is fair. All the more so when one looks at the current demand for high end D.

I wonder if this kind of haul could get ya Parayko, or Dobson…

Which one of Barrie or Broberg would you move to LD? One would most likely have to be included in a Karlsson or Klingberg trade. I also wouldn't move Bourgault as the RW depth on the team is weak.

OK so who else then? Chychrun is more of a 2nd pairing player and plays LD. Nurse is better than him. Chychrun would need a 1D to carry him on the top pair. Karlsson is the only top pairing dman even possible right now. And he has a full NMC so he'll have to approve it.
