Watched the Teemu & Teppo presser today. Those two have always been absolute first-class individuals from the get-go and have never changed that tune. I'm not sure if any of the Jets team do actually read this board but I really do hope that they see the big message here. Salming would be a similar message. There are some seriously positive career and legacy motivations to stay with one team for most,if not all, of your career.

I think that guys like Morrissey, Ehlers, Connor, and Wheeler get this and were willing to sign long-term contracts here. I'm hoping that players like Sheif , Dubios, and Perfetti also realize that this is the way to go and that loyalty will be rewarded later in life. Transient NHL'ers rarely if ever get recognized, although its not always their choice because of trades. Usually, though , bonafide stars get to choose where they want to play.

Wonder if they might go 11F - 7D? Or will it be Heinola for Samberg - or status quo?

Probably the latter!

If the Jets plan to trade Schmidt, Demelo or another d-man I hope they can get a decent forward in return. With teams like Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton or any other team looking for a d-man Chevy should look to receive a forward that is more than a 4th liner.

The Central division and the Western Conference are weak! The jets should go all-in this year. If they don’t win the cup, then tear it all down.

I am liking Sambergs game...... although this is a small sample of games, he looks like he reads the play better than Stanley and might be quicker than Stanley imop.

The need to trade a Dman seems to be a moving target...... while I was on board to trading a Dman like Schmidt or Dillon, I am not so sure who I would trade but I think it would be real difficult to trade Dillon right now as he is providing a spark for this team and is nasty.

I am thinking if there is a trade out there to be done, Schmidt, Stanley and Heinola are the bait. I say Heinola as Chisholm can replace Heinola and Heinola wants out.

It would be nice if they could land Toews and improve the bottom 6 as not sure if or when Ehlers is coming back.

I agree in going all in..... I think after this 20 games in 37 days, we should have a good idea of where this team is and that should be a good barometer of what the team needs to do.

Big Save Dave will get some action during this time period so hoping he can get some wins. I am not convinced quite yet and I still think we need a better backup so we dont run Helle into the ground.

I think the coaching change is paying dividends so far imop.

Samberg is looking great. Excellent reads and plays the new system well. He will only get better from here. I am all in on getting Toews. Either Wheeler can move down to the third line or maybe it might be Perfetti.

There is no doubt Perfetti has the vision and is highly skilled. He reads the play very well. My only problem with his game right now is that he gets knocked off the puck a lot and seems to lack the core strength that he will need if he doesn't want to get knocked around in the playoffs. Wheeler gets the nod here in that regard . So if Toews were to come in, Fly comes back from injury , then Perfetti needs a spot somewhere.

Eventually, it might look like this if I had my way....

Connor- Scheif- Fly
Toews - Dubois - Wheeler
Perfetti - Lowry- Gagner ( Appleton once healthy)
Fjallby - Gus - Maenalanen

That second line would be awesome grit with huge scoring upside !!!

If your intention is turn Toews into a winger, why would you just not go and get Patrick Kane? The whole purpose of getting a Toews, O’Reilly or Horvat would be to increase center depth.

Imagine having a center core of Scheifele, Dubois, Horvat and Lowry. You could essentially play any line against any team and not skip a beat.

I see Tyson Jost was put on waivers by Minnesota, wonder if Chevy puts a claim in for him since they're getting thin at forward. (Also see the Wild recalled former
Jet fan favorite Nic Petan.. 😁)

Is anyone else still wondering why they risked Kovacevic to waivers instead of Capobianco? I don't get the thought process with that one, in a league bereft of RHD that also has a surplus of 3rd pair/#7 LHD it makes that decision a puzzling one to understand.

Ehlers out with sports hernia surgery for 8-12 weeks....OUCH !
Time to trade one of our excess defencemen for a forward.

On an unrelated subject....
Oilers have given up 61 goals and scored 60.
The Jack Campbell thing is really working out well...LOL

Guessing that Chevy promised Kovacevic that if he wasn't going to be top 6 d-man, that he would see if anyone else wanted him.

You're probably right, still seems puzzling considering how much Chevy has protected assets in the past.

Kovacevic was waived instead of Capo because they didn’t trust Stanley.
The left side is both better, AND completely logjammed. They wanted someone with NHL games on the roster

With regard to Ehlers and this unfortunate news, fans should refer to Sidney Crosby who underwent a similar procedure. Unfortunately, we might not see Fly until sometime in February. Hopefully, he is a quick healer and its the minimum recovery time of 6-8 weeks but 12 weeks remains a possibility.

Which also means no trust in Heinola and to a degree, Chisholm.

Yep. Neither of them got games in once the Jets were cooked in the playoff race last year.

Not trying those two, or Kovacevic, OR even Gawanke was a huge unforced error

Heinola and Harkins in and Demelo and most likely Toninato out for tonight's game against the Canes.

Pens play a similar game to what Bowness was trying to instill in the Jets new system. Pitts is one of the best teams in the league at employing the neutral zone trap once they have the lead. Jets are not as good at the trap but better at activating the D. Work in progress.

Why is Stanley not trusted. Stastically, he is one of the best shot suppressors on the team. He has their last 2 playoff goals, and the building erupts when he beats the bark of someone and does the "victory" celebrations. He looks awkward out there, but he gets the job done. In terms of bottom pairing D, he is one my favorite's in this league. While DeMelo is also very good for shot surpression, he doesn't bring anything else to the table. Pionk>Jomo>Dillon>Heinola>Stanley>Samberg>Capo>DeMello

Jets looking great to start the year tho, especially with Ehlers out. Perfetti is going to be a big part of this team going forward.

Tough test for Heinola against a very fast, good team. Hopefully he goes in and never comes out again. A good showing by Ville may give the Jets a veteran D trade option.

Think Samberg has played very well lately!

Samberg is night and day better than Stanley.

Didn't see anything great out of Heinola tonight. Just average. I still wonder about his physicality down the stretch and possible playoffs. It's possible Chevy was showcasing him.

Canes comeback was 1/ 200 or less. Two deflections and missed save. In the end, I won't lose sleep about it because it wasn't a conference rival so their point makes no difference.

I think Heinola would be best served to be a part of a trade package. Vancouver is looking for a young D and a draft pick for Horvat. We should oblige them and do the following:

To VCR: Ville Heinola, 2024 First Round Draft Pick

To WPG: Bo Horvat

Jets could sign Horvat to a massive extension to protect against PLD possibly leaving. And, if the Jets completely fizzle out, they could trade whatever they have and officially begin the rebuild.

Side note

The fact that Axel Jonsson-Fjällby is considered by the NHL as a rookie completely slipped by me.

Nice pickup by the Jets. Way better than Toninato for sure.

They aren't trading Horvat for that package. If anything, it would be a PLD swap which could benefit both teams assuming neither player plans on staying with their club
