Atkinson has an ā€œupper body issueā€. Does that mean that it isnā€™t an injury?

Use whatever word you like. It didn't happen on the ice. In fact, they're not sure how it happened. It presented one day, worsened over the next week and hasn't gone away. As such, he discontinued skating.

So, to sum up:
JVR might be back by Christmas
Couts might be back next season
Atkinson is on life support
And Ellis is mostly dead

No update on Brown, but, then again, who would really give a (frank)?

Ha! Yes, that sums it up! Totally forgot about Brown, and you are correct...who cares. We are in first place and have a lineup full of #1 picks so we don't need those guys anyway.

Itā€™s not about what word I want to use. Iā€™m just curious about whatā€™s going on. Is he physically hurt or is it something else? The coach seemed to indicate it was of a personal nature and heā€™d leave it to Cam to explain if he wanted to. Your response to my question makes it sound like something happened and he got hurt. Im not trying to be adversarial. I just want clarification. I understand stand that someoneā€™s personal health issues are none of my business, but with the Flyers track record itā€™s hard not to be dubious. The secrecy followed by more bad news routine is getting old.

I am not trying to be adversarial either, but would it make any difference if the issue was physical or psychological? Either could resolve soon or linger indefinitely....

Didnā€™t Michael Douglas say he got throat cancer from going down on Catherine Zeta?

On another note, Torts on Frost: ā€œ "Frosty hasn't done enough to earn his ice time, so yea that's where it is."

There has been a huge surge in oral cancer in men because of cunnilingus becoming so commonplace in the last 40-50 years.

EDIT: It is the same mechanism of HPV and could be addressed by vaccination but no one talks about it for men...

When Torts sat Hayes and Konency, he stated he didnā€™t wanna break up those lines or the nine forwards. I didnā€™t think anyone rose to the occasion, especially Frost. Which only added to my frustration with that game. You canā€™t argue with the response against a good team.

The most telling quote from Torts about Frost. ā€œThey tell me heā€™s an offensive playerā€. Playing Seeler over Zamula, whom I think has been as good if not better then the older player seems odd.

Sounds like Frost is one step closer to the press box. I guess the next step would be a train to LV? How's York doing? Some stellar drafting by the last couple GMs of this team I tell ya! FIRE CHUCK!

I wasnā€™t really considering a psychological issue. I was more thinking an ailment of some kind. For some reason, yes I do think it would make a difference to me if I knew what he was dealing with.

The secrecy with NHL injuries is just weird. I mean, the NFL is a physical league where the opposition could go after an existing injury and they don't do it. It's just weird. The fans deserve a right to know. Thanks!

As a fan I hate the secrecy but I get the personal space. Steve Mason's situation is a good example of just butting out, it was something he wanted to keep quite and that's his right. The stuff with a player like Ellis or Atkinson seems different though, I don't believe they are personal life related nor can a player target them for a cheap shot on the ice, but as fans its of course nice to feel like the team has the respect of its fan base to give some information, The secrecy in cases like that is just frustrating. Atkinson could be anything, Vertigo, Migraines, Concussions - but I don't see how the fans knowing or not makes a difference to the player or his recovery.

If it were Myocarditis, it sounds like heā€™d likely either recover in a few days or be done with his career. Doesnā€™t seem like the type of thing that takes weeks to figure out. The silence about injuries, and the unusual amount of on-going issues and multiple surgeries, sure makes me feel like the Flyers are trying to hide something they did wrong.

I donā€™t know if we have a right to know, but the way the Flyers go about things seems weird.
