Bill or any poster who would you consider the best drafting team in the last 15 years? What criteria would you use to determine that?

Then in the same time frame the best team at development? What criteria would you use to determine that?

Going back 15 years from 2004-2018. Last 3 drafts too early to make a conclusion.
.
2004 – 0 out of 11 picks. Comical.
2005 – Downie. 1 of 6 picks.
2006- Giroux. 1 out of 10 picks.
2007 - JVR and Maroon only NHL regulars out of 7 picks.
2008 - Sbisa and Rinalo. 2 of 5 picks.
2009 – 0 out of 6 picks.
2010 - 0 out of 6 picks.
2011 – Couturier and Cousins. 2 of 6 picks.
2012 – Laughton, Stolarz, Ghost. 3 of 7 picks.
2013 – Hagg. 1 of 6 picks.
2014 (Hextals 1st Draft )– Sanheim, NAK, Oskar. 3 of 6 picks.
2015 - Ivan, TK. 2 of 9 picks.
2016 – Hart. 1 of 10 pick.
2017 – Patrick. Frost and Cates TBD though will include them. 3 of 9 pick.
2018 (Chucks 1st draft) – 0 picks. Out of 7. Brink York, and Attard TBD.

Does that qualify as good drafting? Discuss.

Id assume this would be some of the worst drafting league wide. G and Coots are the only real difference makers in 15 years. Pathetic.

I prefer Laughton at wing but not at the expense of Cates, who I don’t think we’ve seen enough of at center, at least not at this level. I don’t understand why they cannot be switched.

Wow. Those lines aren’t looking too impressive. And the post by furio with regard to the drafting… YIKES! What a horrible track record. Raise your hand if you’re actually going to the game tonight or have any plans to help fill that arena until there is a product that is worthy of the fans’ money, sweat and tears.

Can the locals watch it? I wasn’t around here last night but the ESPN app has it as one of their featured games.

Also I feel like Frost is getting set up for failure with those line mates. If Allison shoots the way he did his last crack at the NHL, they might be already but what I saw at camp didn’t generate much.

Can't wait for all the couch GM's to share their wisdom and expertise. Just can't believe comcast didn't reach out to everyone on the board.

Oh, I agree. I don't see any reason whatsoever for pessimism or doubting and second guessing the GM. Let's go!

I was actually looking at that Frost line thinking those are probably the two best line mates he has ever had as a center.

Two shooters may be a boon for him as he is mainly a playmaker.

if he can get zone entry and some space, it could work well. Frost should be able to get zone entry, on him if he doesn't.

EDIT- HOPING JVR, PLAYING FOR A CONTRACT, WILL BE A POSITIVE ON THE LINE

I am excited as a fan to start the season. I have a work event from 5-7, my son is setting up the tiki, soon as I am home we will be watching and hoping. True, no real first line but I am excited to see the kids, I do think this is a better skating team than the past, they should be hungry, let it roll..

I edited your post because you skipped 2018

Just randomly picking teams on Hockeydb, I've looked at 7 so far and every one dwarfs what the Flyers have done in terms of hitting on picks. Even if you set a criteria of say, 200 NHL games. It's pretty bad.

You should average 1 NHLer out of every 5 picks or so. Obviously it's going to vary based on position, but should work out somewhere around there.

Fletcher's offseason changes to injury prevention on his club are already paying dividends for the season opener.

Ellis - LTIR and his career is over
Brown - LTIR
Couturier - IR
Risto - not playing, only played two preseason games
Atkinson - not playing, missed all of preseason
Hart - starting without playing a second in preseason
Farabee - playing without playing a second in preseason

So simple math says the Flyers should have gotten 24 players out of those drafts.

They got 22 (including the *pending* guys)

For reference, in that same time frame, Carolina drafted 20 guys who played 200+ NHL games.
