It would be great to see the Jets start the season with Heinola, Samberg, Lambert and Torgersson as they can't go into the season with the same poor roster they had last year.

We're heard time and time again about the Jets players starting the season with a clean slate and their effort and play will dictate the final roster.

But my guess is (barring a trade - lol) is that we start with
Connor-Scheif-Ehlers
Perfetti-PLD-Wheeler
Harkins-Lowry-Appleton
Toninato-Gustafsson-Gagner
- Barron
-Eyssimonen

Morrissey-DeMelo
Dillom-Piomk
Samberg-Schmidt
-Stanley, Kovacevics

Hellebucyk-Riitich

No big surprises - but hope
Lambert is sent to Moose so he can be called up if needed, as well as Torgersson and Nikkanen. I think Kovacavics has played well on the b-line - and what to they do with Heinola? Next game is big for him IMO.

Basically, after all the talk, the same old Jets? Good enough for playoff position? With Lambert and Torgersson showing well,, think it makes a Wheeler trade more likely.

They have to trade at least one defenceman at some point. Kovacevic is no longer exempt from waivers. Brendon Dhillon seems like the best trade chip as he has a reasonable cap hit and is without a no trade clause.

Let’s see what happens. The new coaching staff may wanna fully evaluate all the defenceman prior to management making any kind of trade

Yea, we've being saying that for months now - and - silence! Surely the Jets are not going to wait and lose a couple of these guys on waivers, are they?

Time to make that trade you talk about above!

What team has interest in Wheeler or the cap space to fit him in? Just can't see him going anywhere this season, maybe at the trade deadline but even that seems unlikely.

If a team claims a player they have to keep that guy on their roster for like 30 days or something so if a team claims Kovacevic they need to have an NHL spot for him so while there's a chance he or Gawanke could be claimed its probably not likely.

Didn't know about the 30-day rule. Could have sworn guys were claimed previously (like Comrie) and then re-claimed when team tried immediately to send them down. But not sure about that.

I think Kovacevic would be claimed in an instant, can't see Gawanke being claimed, though you never know. Teams are always looking for D - and willing to take a chance on a reclamation project or prospect.

Teams like Minnesota (5.7M in space) or Anaheim (16M in cap space) might be willing to wheel (pardon the pun) and deal, although in the Wild's case, pieces may have to come back. The Wild are more likely as they have SC dreams I believe.

But you are probably right, maybe more interest at deadline.

Rumour has it the Jets just couldn’t find a trade for Wheeler. What I was told was that they were 100% willing and offering to retain salary, but didn’t get any offers, so they purposely spread the rumour about being stubborn on the cap hit to save face with Wheeler

Now that Mikey Eyssimont has been waived I forsee him as a possible pickup by another team like Seattle. There is always the chance though that with all the other masses of waived players out there hee gets overlooked.

I believe Ross , Jacob , and some reported several weeks ago that Chevy did indeed try to make deal with Wheeler but couldn't get anything across the finish line. He would have a much better chance of getting something done if Wheeler can get off to a really hot start. Possible he might get showcased a bit by keeping his PP time high. We shall see.

What is this in response to? I heard the reports, and fully agree with everything you said.

Did I say something that sounded as if I believe otherwise? Just confused why my name was put into here lol

Possibly the most likely Jet on the list to get claimed, although someone may bite on Gawanke, but kind of doubt it unless Az, Chi or Seattle bite.

Thought Heinola had a very good game last night and solidified his spot on the team. Only problem being he doesn't require waivers while some other D do. But if sent down, it won't be for long. He belongs!

This makes a lot of sense and there's likely a lot of truth to this rumor.

When the news first broke about a possible Wheeler trade the wording was both sides felt a change of scenery would be good and Dreger who's close with Chevy tweeted that the Jets were willing to be "very creative" to facilitate a Wheeler trade BUT then a month or so later the word was the Jets didn't want to retain anything on Wheeler, one would think being very creative would include a willingness to retain some salary.

This organization does a lot to protect its image.

Seattle has great forward depth so doubt they'd claim an Eyssimont but their defense isn't great, could see them claiming a Kovacevic or Gawanke to see what they might be able to do.

The Jets have way too many dmen at both the NHL and AHL level, still trying to figure out why they signed Capobianco and Sautner though Capobianco has looked good in the preseason games.

Jets should make the following move if they can:

To FLA: Blake Wheeler (with salary retained) & Josh Morrissey

To WPG: Sam Reinhardt & Anton Lundell

That would be an absolutely insane decision by Florida.

I love Morrissey, but trading two players far better than Morrissey for Morrissey and Wheeler is instantaneously fired and blacklisted territory

Great! Now if we can just get the Panthers to agree.

I am sure that Maurice and Compon would love this trade. This would also allow them to implement their “systems” much more effectively especially with 2 guys that know it well.

Kovacevic on waivers, wonder if anyone will claim him, that Moose defense is pretty crowded but hopefully isn't lost.
