Next year will be interesting but I would think slightly easier than this year. I dont know about trading away Pulj but Barrie officially becomes redundant the moment Bouchard is signed.

I expect players like Holloway and Bouchard + McDrai will keep us cap poor for the foreseeable future... Like 10 years out. Assuming/hoping they decide to stick around of course.

One bonus is a big cap hit of James Neal coming off the books the year Draisaitl becomes a RFA. I hated that trade from day 1 but I like it more if we successfully use that cap space to resign Draisaitl.

Yes, Neal's 1.9 comes off the books that year and Kane's 5.1 is done the year McDavid is due. Cap space will not be the reason these deals don't get done.

This pre-season has been playing out like a bad B movie. Not sure what they are trying to ascertain, but the whole roster construction makes no sense. How can you get a read on how well a rookie might fit in the line-up, when he is only getting reps with 4th liners (at best), and matching up against other teams NHL talent? Why aren't they icing at least a couple of their top 9 to see how these kids (or PTO's) look with them given the chance?

And why isn't Virtanen released yet?

Holland hasn't been that bad. Way better than Chiarelli, Tambellini or Mac-T
