Just because a team submits an offer sheet does not the mean the player will automatically sign it.

Minnesota should make this offer. Can you imagine Robertson with Kaprizov? This can be a game changer for the Wild. Robertson and Kaprizov would both crack 100 points if played together. Go for it Bill Guerin, 7 x 10 mill should get it done.

This is true but it would be a wake up call for Dallas to stop playing hardball with an elite offensive talent. Whatever the off would be the Stars would have to match and deal with the cap in some other form. They are playing a very dangerous game in the sense that you do not want to piss the player and lowballing him is absurd.

sabres would have to offer $10,503,721 or more per year due to lack of their third round pick

and they are on the cheap lately

doubt they have 20 mil tied up in 2 wingers

Can you imagine Cliff FLetcher as GM, he would have been signed for the max at the max dollars but then again Cousin Cliffy pays everybody, lol

Except Dallas knows there are only two or three teams that are actually in a position to offer sheet him. And the player likely wants nothing to do with any of those teams. So the likelihood of JR signing one is about 0.00000001%

The only team that would have space, picks and player might have interest is Anaheim.

So a source said 2 teams are considering an offer sheet right now for Robertson. But they don't say which 2. That's neat. But if I was told that I would have serious doubts and demand some proof of that.

First, the only teams with cap space for Robertson are generally the teams looking to win the lottery. Arizona, Chicago, Detroit, Anaheim...not happening. Buffalo was mentioned. But they don't own a 3rd round pick to make that work. Neither does Minnesota.

Then there is the minor detail of Robertson actually wanting to join any of those organizations. Doubtful.

If you said some teams are actively engaged in trade talks it might be a bit more believable. But I'm about 99% certain he re-signs with the Stars. They may be working on something to free up a bit more cap room first. Maybe wait for 1-2 preseason games before someone conveniently goes on IR. But keep sleuthing to see who those 2 teams might be...

I doubt the Sabres would do this, but getting their hands on a 3rd rounder should be easy.

The 3rd rounder has to be their own, not just anyone's. So they have to work out a deal with Vegas to get their 3rd rounder back from the Eichel trade.

can't see MTL, CHI and PHX do it, they are all rebuilding and their 1st round draft pick next summer should be a top 5 in a great draft, not worth the price.

Thanks for the update Turd, that makes me sleep better for now. I want him in Dallas big time. I just hope the two sides are getting this done with no hard feelings. Robertson will be a 100 points man one day soon.

He will sign soon. None of those bottom feeders would give up those picks. Most other teams have no cap room. He’s in a pretty good spot in Dallas. Like I said virtually no chance he goes elsewhere unless it’s a hockey trade.

Even if Buffalo could reacquire their 3rd...is Robertson really worth giving up a boatload of picks including a 2023 1st in such a deep draft. You can't lotto protect it. Like we know Buffalo is getting better but they will still be a lotto team, and if that pick ends up being Bedard you get fired instantly.

Play your kids, sell off more assets at the deadline, weaponize that cap space, then next summer you can be more aggressive. No sources. Just knowledge of the sport...

If I can get a 23 year old LW that potted 41 goals for a 1st, 2nd & 3rd and sign him long term, Hell yes I am doing it. Bedard is suppose to be great but you never know what he will turn out to be. I know that Robertson has only gotten better every year. Worth the Gamble IMO

If Colorado did that, knowing that those picks are near the end of the round, then that's a reasonable gamble. But no sane GM with a lotto team would do this. And if you are locking up Robertson for more than 5 years...then you are looking at TWO 1sts, 2nd, 3rd...or even FOUR 1sts. Like a $7.5M x 7 year contract equals FOUR 1sts. Nobody is doing that. But OK. Ek said talks are happening...
