Looks like another player for the phantoms. They seem to be overloaded with players at this time. Would have just let Cates walk.

So 2 more player drafted by the prior regime who didn't pan out. They really drafted some high ceiling players during those years.

On the bright side, Emil Andrae looks like a player! Like to see the Flyers bring him over soon.

A 4th rounder and a 6th rounder. Wow.

Yes, I agree, I don't understand this signing, but then again I don't understand a lot of what the Flyers are doing these days. The problem with the Flyers' system is they have depth, but no real stars or I would argue potential stars. Sure Foerster, Gauthier, maybe Brink, Andrae, they can be nice players, but I don't see stars in them. The problem I continue to have with the Flyers is what is the plan to obtain at least 1 real star for the team? It clearly can't be Free Agency or Hockey trades, the Flyers had their chance this off-season but their short-sightedness killed that chance. So it has to be the 2023 draft with 3 generational players available, except Fletcher is not acting like a GM that is setting the franchise up to get one of those players. Thus I guess the plan is mediocrity, the same as it has been for over a decade!

Even if everything falls perfect for the Flyers this year, i.e. their injured players all come back and play like they can (including Ellis), and the team's identity gets a boost from Torts' coaching, the Flyers are at best a bubble team, fighting with Pittsburgh and Columbus for 4th place in the division. How does this help anything, picking 14th in a draft with 3 generational players at the top? All of this just makes no sense!

St. Ivany was an easily justified pick in a 4th round. Offensive ability. Good frame. Made a very competitive Team USA roster for WJC. Good collegiate career. A borderline contract candidate, although not a likely future NHLer. That's how it goes.

None of that changes the fact it was another miss by the prior regime. Correct that is how it goes.

If it was a Chuck pick peeps be up in arms.

Watched the USA - Sweden game last night. Andrea looked pretty good. Good hockey IQ combined with a strong offensive skillset. He, and other Swede defensemen, had a pretty rough time for stretches of the game dealing with the speed and aggressive forechecking and backchecking of the US team. All told, though, he was certainly one of Sweden's best players last night.

Rank in order of who you would want as your GM. Number one is your preferred choice and number 3 is the least preferred. Holmgren, Hextall or Fletcher?

Last night was the first time I watched him in this tournament. I was pleasantly surprised. Let's hope he can get his game to the next level and become a regular here with the Flyers in a year or two.

Not going to hit them all. Hopefully some of these guys they are signing continue to develop. It really was the downfall of Hextall’s plan….had guys like Patrick, O’brien and even Frost or Ratcliffe hit his plan may have worked out nicely. Build and add to an already very solid core that he inherited from the Holmgren/Clarke era.

Too soon to tell how the Flyers have drafted under Chuck, the complaint from me is he gives too many of them away.

No one with any sense thinks that every pick, especially late round picks are going to be hits or even sniff the NHL for the most part.

Anyone who understands drafting, regardless of who did the drafting, knows that hitting on any player after the first 2 rounds is basically a miracle. And the later you pick in every round in every draft, the odds increase exponentially. Complaining about it is like this......

All teams miss on draft picks. It just so happens that the Flyers miss at a much higher rate than other teams do.

I agree. THIS has been his main issue. Cant hit on a pick if you don't have it to begin with.

What about Cutter Gauthier? He was a top 5 pick. You have repeatedly said that you need top 5 picks.

Which Holmgren? The one that rebuilt the team on the fly or the one that struggled once Pronger went down? I'll take the former in a heart beat.

I think he has a great chance. I always thought smallish d never had much of a chance….but guys like Fox, Macavoy and of course Makar have blown that notion away. Sure it would be nice if he was “6,2”, but I think guys like him and York now have a real shot in today’s NHL.
