And when did it get so franking expensive to rent a car?
- Atomic Wedgie

Since The Rona, when people stopped traveling and the car rental companies reduced their fleets.

I've rented a lot, and I highly recommend Enterprise. In fact, they are one of the best companies for customer service that I've dealt with, period. I never rent with anyone else.

Also, always book the economy (unless you specifically need something better), because quite often they will give you something better that is sitting on the lot when you show up for the same price. Or, they will upsell you slightly and put you in something fun like a Challenger.

Also, set up your booking online, but before you finalize, change the pickup location around to a few different locations. Often the various Enterprise locations around the city have different prices for the same dates and same class of vehicle.

If you get a pickup truck, often your credit card will not cover the insurance waiver, so be aware of that.

Never be a Megadowner, and always Trust In The Shanaplan.

Sure.

We just have to wait and see when this actually happens.

Could be soon, could be in 2 years...

Just wish we goddamn knew.

Carey's had a great career. No doubting that fact. But the uncertainty with his future seems to be a bit of a head scratcher.

If he's not anywhere close to 100%, he's not seeing much game action.

Doubt he wants to leave the game that way. Will be interesting for sure.

These are some great points. I'll remember them should I need a rental.

Rental cars/trucks and equipment rentals have skyrocketed in the past 18 months. If you go into a car dealership right now they will have virtually no new vehicles available for sale. Order a new one and its 3 months or more delivery - rental companies are gouging based on this knowledge (which is being blamed on the chip shortage) I went into a dealership 3 weeks ago to buy my son a new car. I was told 6 to 8 months delivery but they did have a used 2 years old with 106K km on it that I could have - the price was $2000 less than the new one I ordered. They had a cancellation so getting the car at the end of August. It's truly obscene.

The chip shortage is a real thing, dealerships could have ordred vehicles with less options on them but many didn't want to go that route and then have to sit on inventory as everyone wants most or all of the options whcih means more chips per vehicle needed.

I was looking for a new Dodge Ram 1500 a year and a half or so ago and was going to order brand new as one of the options I wanted is fairly new to that vehicle (blind spot detection) and I'm picky and couldn't find a used one that had it but also the otehr stuff I wanted (or more importantly had stuff on it I did not want).

When I went to build the truck online it wasn't an option in any way or part of any package. Went to the dealership as I figured it was just a website glitch but nope - they quitetly removed it to 'save chips and produce more vehilcles'.

I lucked out and finally found a used 2020 with the option and super low KM's as someone traded it in when COVID put him out of the job he needed the truck for - right place at the right time.

Side note - if your buying a Ram here in Canada I would strongly suggest not getting the air ride suspension. Neat option to be able to lower your truck to let old people in or more easily load the bed and then nice to raise it to go into the muck or water when it's high to say load/unload a boat. The fact it moved on it's own to get better mileage was nice too but in my 2017 RAM the compressor was replaced twice, 2 air bags twice and one other expensive repair that I don't recall exactly what it was - all under warrantly. The repairs take like a week because the parts aren't stocked at the dealership yada, yada, yada and the service guys and gals all told me the air ride breaks on most as it's not built for the weather here.

I had to get out of the truck before the warrantly was up, the cheapest of those repairs was over 3K!

I agree that the chip shortage is real. The gouging that is going on is still over the top. It started with high end graphics cards for computers. Where a $400 card was typically going for over $2000 on secondary markets. Now with cars, any dealer will offer 2 to 3 times the trade in value given say 3 years ago. This hit later than the computer parts, because people were generally (not all) working from home and not driving - but computers were still being used. Another fun fact about the chip shortage, cars are being manufactured using much less electronics wherever possible. Manual gas tank covers vs. electric, less complex GPS.

Probably implying that she hasnt done much in the past 30 years or so and hasn't really been in the public eye.
Although maybe a little insensitive considering

The car companies added fuel to the issue when they cancelled large orders in early 2020 as they expected much lower sales.

Agreed. Makes sense.

I'm unsure why life saving medicine isn't capped in general. It might be but I have no clue.

Let’s stop with the political talk please.

Stating facts like the FBI raid occurred is fine, going down the rabbit hole of commenting on politicians (regardless of the political stripe and If the comment is negative or positive) will result in the post being deleted at a minimum.

If you want political talk & discussion please take it to DM’s or elsewhere.

Thx

It IS August 9th. There's not much to talk about hockey-wise. We could talk about the two decent signings the Bruins made and how we hope that age catches up to the whole team, including prematurely affecting Pastrnak - because exposure to old people is contagious. You get all cantankerous. And itchy. But that could just be scabies. But I digress.

Or we could lament how the Bruins keep getting good deals and then logically go down the rat hole of whether or not Dubas is giving out fair-value contracts or overpaying, and then come to the knee-jerk conclusions that obviously since we can't trade Tavares, that trading Marner or Nylander for cap space is clearly the answer to winning a cup.

Or we talk baseball and everyone female doges.

Or we talk about topics that are typically taboo in most non-specific boards: politics and religion. That leads to all sorts of other issues because it affects people at their core and you're just not going to get anywhere there anyway. If someone were willing to be swayed politically or philosophically by some random words on the internet, their entire life would be living like a kite in the wind.
