Ken Hitchcock. No faith in the player, no plans to make him a regular starter.

Bill, I remember reading an article about Lindros’ career where the writer said that at the beginning of his career, Lindros played with reckless abandon hitting everyone in sight. The writer said that coaches and players tried to tell him to pick his spots to no avail.

Obviously, Lindros and Allison aren’t comparable players. I havent watched Allison. Do you think that Allison plays with that reckless abandon that the writer spoke of ? Could that be part of the reason Allison has been injured so much?

Yes, Allison does play with reckless abandon. That's what was lacking late last season. He was ineffective. On the flip side, he stayed healthy for the final month. Needs to strike a balance, if he can.

I have seen very few players with the injury luck of Allison over the 40 something years I have been watching hockey. It would be comical if it wasn't so tragic.

WHOA how do I sign up for this camp next year? You know the skill level, Bill? I’m coming home next month… asked the Philly Warrior team if I could come out and skate. Don’t think it’s gonna happen though.

I will post the registration information for next year as soon as available. Skill level varies quite widely. Re: the Flyers Warriors, have you contacted Bill Duffy?

Flyers should hire a guidance counselor that helps with conditioning and stuff. While they are at it maybe a voodoo priestess that can ward off bad juju.

Yeah I know all teams have injured players blah blah blah, but it sure would be nice to have a season begin without having so many high priced players and/or prospects with major injury concerns. Why do all the 4th line and fringe players stay healthy?

Hopefully Homers contributions to this team will be remembered well compared to some of the Anti Homer comments seen on these pages. Clarke will always be Mr Flyer, Snider of course will always be the main associated name through the first 5 decades, but Homer served in just about every position possible and truly is at least in my book one of the purest Philadelphia Flyers you can get.

That kind of sums of the problems of the Flyers. That's great for longevity and loyalty, but the Flyers need a new breed that knows how to win. Their achievements are awesome in the 70's, but it's 2022. NO Flyer knows what it takes to win in the modern era, let alone knows what it takes to build a winner.

Who are some of the most praised now a days? Right off the top of my head Yzerman and Sakic...WINNERS. They won as players and evolved into the modern salary cap era. They understand the skill needed, the kinds of players needed (physically and mentally) and how to assemble the right parts through the correct means. Neither is trying to buy a winning team, they build winning teams through patience and smart moves.

This is probably why "the old boys club" is so popular among Flyer fans. Sadly being referred to as a pure Flyer really means being a loser.

Flyers rank 3rd All-Time in winning percentage, only behind Montreal and Boston. 4th if you really want to add Vegas to the list.

Sweet let's sit on that dead horse for a bit longer.

Ok how about for the last decade...

2010-2022 0.486 winning %

Rank 20 out of 32.

Not good at all.

Actually speaking of his moves as GM there were a few questionable ones some from cap compliance issues but as GM he made moves to go from last to a contender in quick fashion and without the help of drafting a superstar. Trading for Hartnell and Timonen, signing Pronger, getting Coburn from Atlanta Even the Finnish kid from Detroit no one knew about turned out great yet he didn’t cave to sign him to a huge mistake of a contract like Buffalo did. I didn’t grow up watching the homer playing days so that bias doesn’t exist but overall I think he did plenty of good moves for this team and honestly a better job than our current regime to date. If we won the cup in 10 (would have if Emery wasn’t injured) maybe he looks better to some but all in all it’s just his job to pit the players on the ice. They have to perform and we came up just a little shy

The 70's...they changed the game.

The 80's..they evolved the game slightly from the 70's.

The 90's..they peeked their heads out of the toilet and bought teams that were a revised 70's team.

The 00's...they continued to buy teams to keep themselves above the poor until that dreaded salary cap only to flush over and over.

The 10's...they continued to try to buy winning teams only to get plugged up by unfortunate events and show the organization's flaws.

The 20's...they need to call a plumber because it's starting to get stinky.

The last 30 some years...I see no winners that can build, just lame excuses why they can't sustain year to year.

As a fan there were some seasons and moments I wouldn’t trade for the world. The 97 run. The 00 team Im still disappointed didn’t go further. Our run to the finals. Pronger! The possible jailable beating emery gave holtby that was a turning point for that season, roenicks pregame locker room events Coatseys corner, Seeing Lindblom return to the ice so much quicker than expected. We didn’t win a cup but I remained a fan for some awesome moments. I don’t see the last 30 years as flushable sir.

Since you wouldn't trade those moments for the world, then surely you would not trade them for a few Stanley Cups, since they would be part of that world. In other words, you find a fight, a press conference, a disco dance, a remarkable cancer recovery in a so far utterly unimpactful career more worthwhile than the actual memory of attaining what the game is structured to attain.

Yes, I know its a figure of speech, but I think so was Glak18's characterization. Who is a loser technically? A person who who becomes distracted and sidetracked from the real issues, and gets fixated/obsessed/worked-up on things that are sideshows.

No offense to you personally by the way. Just illustrating something.

Bill, I understand how hard this is as a devout Flyers fan. He has it exactly right. This old school Flyers culture is dead and has been for a long time. It's not the 70's and 80's anymore.
