Seems like it works out well for both teams.

Chucky dumpster fire and his cap strapped bottom feeders didn’t get Tkachuk? I’m shocked.

Bill, a lot of high end talent has moved around this offseason. The Flyers never seem to be in a realistic position to compete for any of it. When Fletcher spoke of the “aggressive retool” and “adding elite talent” did he actually believe he could do that. The roster and the cap are what they are? Could Fletcher really not see the position he was in? What changed? Timing wise it seems like the “aggressive retool” was just BS to renew season tickets. What’s your opinion?

You seem to overlook ND who was pursued by a number of teams. CF landed him.

Good point. Got him on a very friendly team deal as well.

Great trade for both teams I think. Love this offseason so far. I feel for Philly though. The team has hit a rough slide. As long as they have their 1st rounder though they should be able to have at least a bit of peace of mind.

RIP Dmitri…Such a tragedy for his family and the team. I’m glad his family maintains some contact with the organization.

Tired of all the Chuck bashing on here day in and day out. He did win the Nic Deslauriers sweepstakes.

And I don’t want to see any fancy stats or charts that say he is a bad player. Watch him play. The kid brings his lunch pail to the ice every game and his middle name is Sandpaper.

The four years is also a positive. At the end of it the kid will be acclimated to the Flyers culture and will be able to step right in to a player development role with the club.

The Giroux, Tkachuk and JG situations offer some prospective on contract management. First, for older stars nearing the end of a contract you need to act a year before the contract expires (or DO NOT GIVE THEM NMC/NTCs) or, as we saw, ride it out and then accept much less. For younger stars you need to structure contracts so that they are controllable into their late 20's - see JG and Couturier. If you lose them for nothing ala JG, at least you got the best years of their career. In fact, this may be a better option than the one the Flyers chose with Couturier......

It was Dave Scott, actually, that made the "aggressive retool" comment, although CF did refer to a need for more high-end talent.

Here's the thing: The Flyers boxed themselves in to where they were and still are working from a position of weakness. You can work around cap issues if you have players who've increased their trade value. You can work around a down season or underachieving/injured players you were counting on if you have cap space. It's very tough to work around both.

But, no excuses, there was a seventh-plus month planning window between when AV was fired and when Draft/ FA time came around. The Flyers were unable to put much into action.

It's a lot easier said than done of course. Players have a say. In order for players to be willing to give up free agency years, that comes at a premium. Which normally means a higher cap hit. It's always a give and take.

I would add a third wheel to your two, not often is it a team wide, hell franchise wide regression/injuries. Usually you have a few players who still do well, seems every players trade value went down after a 2 year run of hell

Also the best thing that happen, they get the 5th pick and they have their hands tied and have to wait

I still think the 24-25 season is the play by the 24-25 trade deadline the Flyers bad contracts will be close enough to maybe move some or walk away from.

Play well, trade who you can, load up on picks, you will have some core pieces moving into their prime, you hit on a few picks for 22-24, Coots is the SR vet, could actually be a really good team

If Ellis is done and Cam plays well and you can move him this season or next, you could it up a year. Really only Hayes as an anchor

I think he can be moved, hope. Really hinges on Ellis being done. Hayes would have to play lights out for the next season and a half to have a glimmer of hope to move, but they can be get around that if all else is done right

All teams signed FA’s in 2019 anticipating the cap going up, all are squeezed by it, especially when you have a GM who makes the wrong calls or ends up losing on the risks taken. Maybe by 24-25 the cap will go up enough to help

I don't know about the worst in history but the worst in Flyers history for sure. He has so badly screwed this team up. He's not alone. The entire hockey operations department is incompetent.

Dave Scott could have made that comment at some point, I know he echoed it with the "this is not a 3,4,5 year rebuild....2-3 players away" comments.

But Chuck definitely dropped the aggressive re-tool comment in the press conference as well.

"Everything’s on the table," Fletcher said. "We’re going to try to aggressively retool here. The trade deadline typically, as you all know, the teams that are clearly going to make the playoffs are often looking to add guys on expiring contracts. The teams that aren’t making the playoffs have a chance to maybe add some future assets whether they’d be draft picks or prospects. You do get the occasional hockey trade at the trade deadline, but we’re at the 43-game mark, right now we’re really focused on trying to win some games and get better." He followed that up with his comments on elite talent

7 months and his plan amounted to overpay for DeAngelo and buyout Oskar. Then sign Deslauriers to a 4 year deal.

The fact that Comcast hasn’t already fired him speaks volumes to their complete lack of understanding of what it is that they actually own here.

That’s a major issue… squandered over half a year and were either dishonest about the plans or incapable of making a plan and executing it. Anger is turning in to apathy and the powers that be better not act like they’re shocked when the Wells Fargo Center is far from filled.
