They have about 4.6 million or so in space, and we're going to need another second line or middle six winger too. So Kadri, despite knowing what he is worth, is taking a silly discount, or they are trading a contract. Or I guess, and I know this is probably ridiculous, your sources reside in your navel. |

Most likely would mean trading JT or Sammy.

By that logic the Avs went 4-1 in the playoffs without Kadri.

Girad comper mcdermind would likely have to be moved to sign Kadri plus need to sign towes Bryam and MacKinnon in the next two years. |

Girard did not have a good year and gets pushed around a lot in the playoffs because he is a smaller guy. He is 100% expendable with Byram and Manson in the lineup where Kadri was essential to the team winning the cup. This is a no brainer.

Yeah, he had an off year and was pushed around by Vegas in the playoffs last year - as were several Avs D especially Toews. In the '20 playoffs he had 10 points in 15 games was a plus 4 and was at least the Avs 2nd best D. He was fine in the playoffs this season before his injury, in fact he and Manson were a great pair in the first round and a half. When he's not having one bad season he's one of the best puck moving D's in the league on a very friendly contract, cost contained for years.
The number of moronic Avs fans fixated on seeing G as the root of all evil without realizing his capabilities is staggering. It's like a litmus test.
I love Naz but he's 32 years old and before this season had more than 60 points in a season only once when he had 61 five years ago. It's not in any way a 'no brainer' to cap dump a Top 4 D to re-sign him. |

If Girard goes, his role is more than covered by Makar, Toews, and Byram. If Kadri goes, his role is covered by...?

He is not the root of all evil, but he is expendable. Girard, Makar and Byrum are in many ways the same type of player but Makar has been one of the best players in the NHL. Byram when healthy showed he is on his way and logged some heavy minutes in the playoffs. Toews has developed into one of the best shut down dmen in the NHL and was fantastic for 99% of last year. Girard has some great qualities to his game, but he is the most expendable and I value Kadri a lot more than Girard.

I didn't realize the Avs could only play 3 D per game.
I'm quite sure they can find someone to score 50 points a season. The plan was for Newhook to do that since the night he was drafted. He had 33 this year with 3rd line minutes and 3rd line wings. If they want to stay in contention they need to have significant contributions from guys on ELC's or they're going to end up like Vegas. And if they throw half their Cap into their Top 6 they're going to end up like Toronto.
If you believe Kadri is going to continue to have 87 point seasons and pay him as such based on one I'd suggest you're a very optimistic person.
I still remember when the Avs had one of the worst D's in the league with MacKinnon, Duchene, Stastny and O'Reilly in the center spots. I prefer having the best D in the league. |

Looks like Kadri overvalued himself in this flat cap world. Probably hoped for a max term deal at 8MM+. |

He isn't going to go for it, but if we signed him to a 4 year $28 Million dollar deal I'd be happy |
