Carol Schram: The Canucks' 1986 Cam Neely trade is instructive when pondering J.T. Miller Thirty-six years ago today, the Vancouver Canucks cut ties with promising prospect Cam Neely in a trade that is still bearing fruit for the Boston Bruins. It's a reminder of the impact that a big deal can have — worth considering as J.T. Miller's name swirls in trade rumours.

Awesome research to the trade results which still hurts 36 years later. Rumour has it that when Harry Sinden paused on the phone after being offered Cam Neely, Gordon panicked and quickly offered the first as well.
Neely was mentored b Terry O'Reilly and fit into the Bruins system and may have never had success here, but it still was a horrible trade.

The key to that trade was Butcher. The Blues were willing to do basically anything to get a physical defensive defenseman for playoffs.

I remember that. Hopefully we win another big trade like that again soon. They have been few and far between.

Elliotte: I don't think anyone should be surprised if Vancouver tries to move up in the draft.

Mentions that he's not sure Slafkovsky would be the target though if they do move up.

With the existing holes within the present lineup and the organization I believe trading Miller, for the correct return, is not only a no-brainer….it’s a must.

The important better young players in the organization, Demko, Pettersson, Hughes, are all young enough that Allvin should be looking to reset things to build a better future.

We are all aware of your desire to trade JTM. No need to restate your position every day. Let’s wait until July 7th and see what happens then.

Every second day?

I’d actually like to trade Horvat to Montreal for a 1st (Flames pick) & a prospect and re-sign Miller. But I’m not sure the organization feels the same.

Elliotte has heard Mike Yeo as a name that could join the Canucks as an assistant coach if they decide to add a coach.

I just know Horvat won’t be moved so moving Miller is really the next realistic move that will potentially progress the franchise forward to a brighter future.

I guess I spend my time traveling the world, not reading about it.
