Karine Hains: Where is the Outrage? Last year, when the Canadiens drafted Logan Mailloux with their first pick, there was a public outcry because the player had asked not to be selected following being charged with defamation and criminal photography and ordered to pay a fine. A year later, it seems that Hockey Canada has covered up a collective rape and not very much is being made of it in the media.

As I said before, I know the victim wants to stay out of the media spotlight but the 8 players involved should be in jail and banned from playing hockey if her story is true....which seems to be the case since they paid millions to keep her quiet.

and Hockey Canada might have used public funds to pay the victim...just to add fuel to the fire.

As bad as it gets for Hockey Canada. +, people will have doubts about this player or that player as long as names don't come out.

the names of the players will come out, mostly because as the process of elimination continues, the few that are left will all look bad.

And that is when it will break.

Why should there be outrage? Who is going to take an accusation seriously when:

1) The accuser doesnt disclose the players

2) The accuser takes no legal action against said players

3) Goes after the league instead for a large sum of money.

Not to mention she is able to recall everything done but was too drunk to give proper consent? If you want justice you go after the criminals. She didnt even try.

Well, a multi-million dollar settlement says otherwise, with regards to taking the accusation seriously. Don't kid yourself, there are people applying big time pressure and spending bit time money to keep this quiet.

If they even had a shred of doubt, this would not be happening.

Not necessarily. They are big corporation. They would rather make it all go away than investigate. This is how most corporations tackle it. The #1 priority for them is to not let an accusation become public. When things like this are brought up people will always remember the company being tied to that accusation.

People wont forget what happened in Chicago which in this case was proven to be accurate. Evander Kane and Patrick Kane. Both were accused of sexual assault and were not charged but that just means they couldnt prove they did it, in the back of everyone's mind we are thinking, did they do it. Virtanen is another example. He's currently in court, hasnt been proven guilty but Vancouver cut ties with him because of the publicity.

It isnt as simple as guilty or not guilty.

Yet another stupid take by you.

She did sue the league, hockey Canada AND the 8 players. It’s only a matter of time until they are known. Jesus you are a moron and I hope you dont have any daughters.

Wow.

Duke Lacross. They were all guilty awful White men too. And, then it turned out everyone in the media was a lying scumbag.

Present evidence of a crime. Then and only then do you get to defame anybody.

Good write up. People should be demanding answers. Hopefully it’s not long until people figure this out and publicize everything. And yes like you mention there should be a house cleaning of anyone that participates in a cover up.

I don't want to get into this poopshow of a conversation, because it is downright (frank)ing stupid, but...

How any times have accusation been proven to be false rather than true?

Picking a few false ones as your standard says all we need to know about your opinion.

It is stupid to ask questions and not just accept wat other people say? The article doesnt state the 8 players were sued, just Hockey Canada.

If they are guilty they should be punished however Im not going to assume guilt because someone makes an accusation. Innocent until proven guilty. At the end of the day everybody lies. I trust only facts. If I misread something I will accept that

No it states that Hockey Canada, the CHL and 8 players were sued as part of the lawsuit. The Canadian government is investigating further as is the NHL.

More will come out eventually.

You presume there is no evidence.

Maybe there is and maybe not.

Or maybe she simply does not want the media all in her face - let alone people like you that are ready to pounce to vilify victims - hanging around her neck for the rest of her life and forever on the internet.

Maybe, just maybe, she feels that whatever is in that agreement outweighs further ruining her life for something that happened to her.

Just maybe.
