A lot of good teams gonna have to blow it up this summer. It must be exhausting informing all their respective threads of the bad news.

The Leafs best players were their best players throughout all seven games against Tampa. Not nearly enough consideration is being given to the disadvantage the Leafs suffered by drawing the defending Stanley Cup Champions in the first round of the playoffs. Tampa played with the heart of a champion. Leafs and Leaf fans have learned that skill is not enough. Being the better team is not enough. The hockey you play in the regular season does not matter once the playoffs begin. A King will fight with every reserve of strength and guile he can muster.

It seems to me that Leaf players and most fans have had very different response after losing in the first round to Tampa. In past years the loss has triggered massive blaming and scapegoating. This year I have seen very little excuses. In order to defeat the King you need to be ready to fight a King.

Next year, some Leaf fans will be agitated that the Leafs are not as dominant in regular season play. It will not matter. Everything from the first day of training camp will be concentrated on achieving significant playoff success.
