Allen is under contract. If Price can't play again...maybe he is a replacement for Price for 1yr but let's be honest, if he is looking to win, MTL is not the place for the next few years, they are rebuilding. |

Eklund: You're the GM. Fleury Goes to .... And place your bids for G. - Eklund
Well the deal that you have MAF accepting is illegal under the CBA. A 35+ contract cannot be front loaded.
The new CBA Memo of Understanding contains a new rule that allows a player to sign a multi-year 35+ deal that is not front loaded, and they can retire if they want. The cap hit disappears when they do.
The new CBA MOU says this:
64. 35+ Year Old Rule for Cap Counting
CBA ยง50.5(d)(i)(B)(5) shall have no application to a multi-year SPC that has: (1) total compensation (Player Salary and Bonuses) that is either the same as or increases from one League Year to the immediately subsequent League Year, and (2) a Signing Bonus, if any, that is payable in the first year of the SPC only. |

Fluery goes to Sweden. Last game of his NHL career he's on the bench behind Talbot. An inglorious end to a glorious, HOF career. |

I didn't think he was cup hungry, might just want to play in Quebec.
Maybe as a back up he could work with Bobby?

On Friday you said this MAF winner would be coming out on Saturday. Three more days later and you select a deal that doesn't even meet CBA rules? Not to mention, why would MAF even sign a deal like this. So lock up for 3 more years at a paltry $2.5M? If he wants to keep playing he could certainly find a 1B situation at $3-4M x 2 years.
As for Giroux...was he really everything Florida expected?
In 18 regular season games he scored 3 goals, with just 1 at even-strength. Sure he put up 20 assists but half of those were on the PP. He didn't generate much 5 on 5. In the playoffs he put up 8 points in 10 games, but in 5 of those 10 games he was blanked. Against Tampa he had 1 assist in 4 games. The PP struggled. Whatever leadership he brought didn't make a difference. If I'm Florida I spend that money elsewhere. But they probably feel pressure to re-sign him rather than admit a mistake. So they perpetuate losing. |

I could see him coming to Pittsburgh to finish his career.
Thing is, The extra stuff in that comment is ridiculous.
A) Pens were not WRONG to keep Murray over Fleury. 2 Stanley Cups and a cheaper/younger goalie playing elite--AT THE TIME--says otherwise. No one could have foreseen the fall of Matt Murray at the time. The fan base and its obsession with Fleury notwithstanding...
Only thing that scares me is that the fans' obsession with MAF could crush Jarry... |

As were Barkov and Huberdeau. They obviously suck. |

3 goals in 4 games.
Pretty sure the entire team was. |

Barkov and Huberdeau aren't UFAs. So Florida doesn't have a decision to make on them.
They also aren't about to turn 35 years old.
Big difference. |

So they WEREN'T invisible? The entire team scored 3 goals in 4 games. How can you single any one player out? |

I like Giroux. I expected to see him winning faceoffs, being a pest on the forecheck, throwing hits, getting a ton of shots, getting good looks and chances. I had to use a magnifying glass to see him on the ice at any given time. He wasn't ringing shots off posts and getting grade-A chances. No breakways, no scrumming, no nothing. Just a ghost with an orange beard.

Can you show me where I said Giroux was the only one invisible? Or where I said anything about Barkov and Huberdeau having a good playoff?
This isn't complicated. The original claim by Ek was Giroux was "everything that was expected in Florida". I questioned that. I think Florida was expecting more. I've already reviewed the stats. The eye test is more alarming. Giroux wasn't snake bit. He wasn't really driving play or generating many chances. So that's a red flag. Barkov and Huberdeau aren't UFAs. Neither are Reinhart and Bennett and Duclair and Verhaeghe. So Florida isn't faced with an immediate decision on these guys. But Giroux is UFA. So is Chiarot. Kind of a big difference. Giroux is also turning 35 with a lot of mileage. I would walk away. But after the price to acquire him they probably feel pressured to re-sign him. Still following? |

Claude, we want to thank you for considering us. As you are more than aware during many rivalry matchups, we have elite level talent. We have champion-like experience and cannot see a single reason why you would not fit in. Despite not winning the cup yourself, we strongly feel you have that champion like pedigree. There isnt much you cant do or havent done, and we would love to have you. You are a top tier centerman. A player who hits, is a great passer and come with a high hockey IQ. Despite the elite talent, we also have a solid core of youth. And with your leadership, you will compliment that blend perfectly. We would slot you in at 2C. You will see your fair share of ice time and PP.
Our offer.....$6.75m/3 with a NMC for years 1 and 2 |
