Going to be sad to see Bergy go.

Here was a carryover from the last thread:

Don't think anyone is biting on Foligno at $3.8M. He is a buyout candidate unless you can somehow package him (which might be possible with someone like Gryz?).
- bluemoon737

And I agree, buyout candidate unless he is a package deal with retained salary. Still dont know who would bite on that though.

Retain half his salary, package him with the 2023 1st and 2022 4th and DeBrusk for Fiala.

If Bergeron is not back, they need to blow it up completely.

Start at the top, Neely and Sweeny - the Coyle, Ulmark and Foligno signings are crippling the team.

Then trade anyone not named MacAvoy or Pasternak. Marchand controls his future for one more year - but after that... trade. Even Pasta if they can accumulate very good prospects / picks. Lindholm might be a keeper but he is 28.

Without Bergeron this team is cooked.

I start over with Swayman, McAvoy, Pasta (unless the return is something that cant be turned down) and perhaps Lysell since he is new enough. Trade the rest for assets which hopefully a GM not named Sweeney will use wisely for a rebuild.

Oh I wasnt including Lysell in the trade-him. I would only include players in that group that actually played. And you are right - Swayman is a keeper (no pun intended) as he is young and cheap.

But of course Ulmark has a NMC - that deal stunk the moment the ink dried.

Ulmark's full NMC ends after next season. Then its a 16 team no trade list

Might have got lost in the last thread, but Zboril has resigned. 2 year, 1.137m per. B's also signed John Beecher to a ELC.

I am luke warm to the idea of a blow up, and with Bergeron possibly retiring it would be in evitable.

What could also happen is Bergeron signs a 1-2 year deal and it’s game on again. Bring back Krejci, clean up some cap space and clean up the roster with some other improvements, who knows.BIG IFS!

Unfortunately it’s becoming clear some younger teams are moving the needle higher and the Bruins now with a 1st round exit, can they legitimately compete anymore for a cup? It’s likely they are in playoff purgatory. Fringe playoff team with no real ability to win it all.

If we had a president and GM that weren't completely impotent, I would totally love to be optimistic about your middle paragraph there. But sadly I cannot be. If I am bergeron, nothing about next year gives me confidence the outcome will be any different. If he comes back, it will be because he still just wants to play.

I imagine the conversations with Bergeron over the summer will center around what management is going to do to make the team a contender. Similar conversations probably happened last summer when bergy was entering his last year. I think the decision is easier to leave, but I guess you never know.

Just being honest. The Bruins are a very good team, but they just don’t have the depth to win it all. Simple as that. Carolina were the stronger team all year, got rewarded with home ice advantage,
and had more depth.

So much for trading Gryz...but the injury does explain the huge drop-off in performance this season. Guess Riley needs to go and hope Gryz returns successfully.

had a friend send me a "Leafs out in the first again" meme, and i'm like, this would be funny if we won a round, but... damn, bruins were just so outplayed in that 7th game.
