Breaking : Tampa Russians deported back to the KHL. Ducherov, Sergachev, and Vasilevskiy are returned to Russia. Will be replaced by Riley Nash, Cal Foote, and Brian Elliot.

I would like to congratulate the Leafs on their first round victory over the TB Cheaters.

Kinda hard to trust a model that puts an NHL team at 2% to win a playoff round.

Dubas needed to shut down Muzzin before the deadline and use the cap space.

Muzzin is the new Alex Murphy. Back from the dead, moving slowly and trying to figure out what and where he should be. Poor guy. Any decent management team could have seen this coming.

Glad there is a new blog so I don’t have to respond to multiple people telling me (or asking mockingly that i must surely understand) that the regular season is not the same as the playoffs and regular season means absolutely nothing.

To say the regular season means nothing is shortsighted and wrong. If you refuse to look at the Leafs play at all during the regular season that’s your prerogative but I watched them play a great season and beat the Tampa Bay twice.

To me that proves they aren’t the underwhelming underdogs or the team that many like to paint them as which is all flash and no substance.

The clincher for me is the doom and gloom predictions and worrying about how the Leafs are so inferior to Tampa on all fronts - all before a single playoff game has been played.

It would be nice to not hear all that until they have played at least one game but I know that won’t happen, I just don’t understand having a “they will lose” attitude before the first game has even started.

And before anyone responds with “look at the past X playoff performances” you can save it. I’m not interested in hearing they will suck and lose in 2022 because they lost in game 7 to Boston or Washington or lost in 2 Covid playoffs. This isn’t that team.

I’m fine with people who have the opinion Tampa is a tough draw and they will have to battle hard and can’t play run and gun and need all star Jack Campbell to win. That was what Dozzer 10 was saying (when he clarified for me) and that makes sense.

What I feel makes zero sense is the belief and prediction that they will suck and lose because they did before with no ability to even consider this is not those teams. Sure same core, some of the same players but did this years regular season not show a different Leafs team than even last year to anyone else other than me?

Regardless I think they can best Tampa and I HOPE they do. I’m not saying it’s a sure thing either way, this might be the most evenly matched 1st round series in the league this year.

How about you wait until the playoffs to see how effective or ineffective Muzzin is before you start pontificating about what Leafs Mgt should or shouldn’t have done. That would go a long way towards your comments not sounding like an obvious troll attempt.

Appreciate that.

I was so sleepy when I posted part of that article from the Athletic.. Siegel is the cats name that wrote about Holl being better than Boosh and has to be in.. blah blah..

I went back an reread it and I'm still stunned by it.

I still am very intrigued by what Keefe is going to do on the backend.
Can't see him going with the Rooks in game 1. Lilly or Sandin.

People have Leafs anxiety.

Its a good narrative and storyline for the fans. They win and Leaf fans are on cloud 9, they lose and anti leaf fans have a hay day. Boom or bust and very high or very low.

In reality the Leafs just had their best season ever and it hinged on Marner/Matthews having their best seasons ever by a stretch, career highs in points by Matthews, Marner, Bunting, Kampf, Kerfoot, Mikheyev, Engvall, Holl, Liljergen, Sandin, Lybushkin

Additions of Kampf, Lily, Gio, Bunting, Kase helped solidify the lineup.

Mikheyev was healthy and the best he has ever been.

A complete D line-up regardless if Muzzin was healthy or not, and in the past if Muzzin was out the Leafs were in trouble.

Inconsistent season by Soupy but finished looking stable.

These players should be confident as (frank) because its the most successful they have ever been individually and as a team.

In the 76.5 5v5 minutes since Muzzin has returned from his concussion, the Leafs are controlling 66% of the shot attempts, 64% of the xG, and 65% of the scoring chances.

Could attribute that to largely playing with Brodie, which is fair, but to say Muzzin has been bad isn't.

Good post Cush, to be fair, I agree this team cannot be compared to or blamed for past playoff failures. The Leafs are on target as far as I am concerned. If we look at a five year plan to rebuild, last season was the 5th for Matthews and Marner - the foundation for the rebuild. I would say they are on target, and looking to move up. Several players not only had very good seasons but have had breakthrough years indicating that the best is yet to come. There are a number of factors that will determine the series. Goaltending, special teams, injuries and officiating come to mind. I like the Leafs, looking forward to a great series for their top players.

Was the poll taken after Tampa beat the Leafs 8-1 or after the Leafs beat Tampa 6-2?

Will be interesting to see who sits when Bunting is back. TBH Kase is not my favorite choice to play against a big dirty team like Tampa. Perry and Maroon will be running Campbell at every opportunity

It’s gonna hurt the leafs not having their net crasher. When will the certainty be made? Just before tomorrow’s game?

It’s hard to remember it was a longer term plan, the Leafs making the playoffs in year one of that plan perhaps created some expectations that didn’t exist from the fan base when Babcock said there would be pain. I think most a lot of Leaf fans felt like were “ya makes sense Mike we are ready for the pain now for success later” but then the Leafs made the playoffs and all bets were off and Leafs Nation went back into “we want the cup now and nothing less will satisfy us” mode.

😁

I do think they make made a lot of progress building towards the franchise they want to be with some steps back but Covid sure didn’t help. Time will tell I suppose but I’m feeling better about this team year over year and that’s a nice change from past decades.

Agreed they need someone to take away Vasy’s view and crash the net and maybe even accidentally/ on purpose bump him like we know Perry will to Soupy.

Maybe that’s Muzzin’s one true usefulness? Kick the living poop out of Perry everytime he tries to crash the net lol

Seriously tho… Simmonds or Clifford need to fight that loser non stop and keep him off the ice… he burned the leafs last year in the post season ffs
