Carol Schram: Jaroslav Halak steps up; Canucks open road trip with big win vs. Avalanche Jaroslav Halak was named the game's first star as the Colorado Avalanche lost in regulation on home ice for just the fourth time this season on Wednesday night. The Vancouver Canucks skated away with a 3-1 win off three third-period goals.

Yeah, I don't consider Karlsson to be that huge of a prospect at 22 compared to Petey at 19. Huge difference in body growth and skill growth and a man playing versus men instead of a gangly boy versus men.

I guess we shouldn't be shocked at how much Petey has excelled when put out on the PK and in defensive situations. He thinks the game so much better than almost everyone on the ice on any given night.

I'm going to the Canucks last home game on the 28th against LA, it'd be nice if that game still had significance when we get there

Thanks, Carol!

Huge win last night. Great effort against a great team. A bit of a confidence booster should we sneak into the last wildcard spot. Suck it, Sutter.

Last time Richardson was with the Canucks, he wore No. 15. That's Matthew Highmore's number now, so Richardson slid into No. 13 — last worn by Griffen Molino for five games in the 2916-17 season, as John Shorthouse pointed out on the broadcast.

Wow, interesting to see the NHL and planet-as-we-know-it are still around in 900 years. I wonder if the Canucks will have won a cup by then?

Realistically Karlsson’s opportunity comes next training camp. 3C possibly but more likely on the wing in the bottom 6. Won’t be surprised he goes to Abby & fares well there. Be nice to see a prospect shine in the AHL it that happens. He’ll need to play on the smaller ice & become a role player unless he really can translate his game on a higher level. Players like Petan should get bumped by him if he’s to see the NHL. Might be a depth call up if he can adapt.

Agree. He really processes the game well & not out of position. Has a nice knack at picking off passes being he anticipates the play very well. Keeps that up & improves he could be much like Stone. A high bar but lets hope lol

So I’m wondering if McDonough’s season ends asap if he can sign & play for Abby & eligible for any PO’s?

Does 11-3-3 and 95 points overall get the Canucks in?

Not trying to sound delusional but here goes anyways 😂

Given what we’ve seen since BB took over amongst all the other changes this team could go on another heater. The resiliency is there along with the inconsistency over the last while. If the PK closes very strong the odds improve greatly. We have enough to compete & push this to the end if we can control the 1st period yips better along with Halak upping his game as he did against the Av’s. This tough road trip will define the chances but it’s very possible a 3-1-1 record can be had. Good enough for the final stretch drive. Anything less & start the offseason plans & try some call ups or McDonough etc. Cannot lose any H2H games against the other wild card teams accept maybe 1 at most. Tall order but it’s slim margin of error.

The boys will either impress the heck outta us or at least keep us interested awhile longer.

Maybe but depends on H2H against other wildcard teams.

Thanks Carol! I’m not surprised that Boudreau opted for Halak vs Colorado and planned Demko against the Wild. On paper the second game is the more winnable opponent and Demko generally gives you your best shot at a W, especially as they will be the “tired” team. Avs aren’t as strong defensively, so you could conceivably win a high octane game in Denver and then tighten up and play for the 2-1 victory in Minny.

I’m saying 2-1 Canucks, Boeser with a pair.

Hey NH, just in case nobody has told you how wrong you and your sources are, any player traded after the trade deadline is NOT allowed to play regular season OR playoff games for the new team until the following season.

The expectation should be Adam Gaudette (Hoby Baker) not Elias Pettersson I think. Which would be great if they have the patience to let him grow his game in the AHL another season or two instead of shoe horning him into the NHL lineup because the roster is pathetically thin.

If they make the playoffs as the 8 seed you need to have a sign that says “Canucks in 6, Suck it Sutter”

I would actually do that if the conditions are right
